    Doberman Discussions

The "reply" button won't work for me. I am going to email the manager about this problem but I just want to say something about Dobermans. My son rescued a starving Dobie a long time ago. I gave her a home (along with a bunch of other dogs I'd taken in over the years!).
I had never lived with a Dobie before, and it's something I'll never get over. My son named her Boo because she scared him when he first found her in the bushes. Boo impressed me many times in the 8 years she lived with me. She was completely fearless - I think Godzilla could have walked on the property - she wouldn't be scared - but let a 3 year-old kid jump on her back and grab her around her neck and practically choke her - and she never said a word! That's when I fell in love with her. She was a comical yet deadly serious dog. She was as stubborn as a mule and independant and strong. She smiled and wiggled and I gave her a good life. I have never respected a dog as much as I respected and admired the spirit in that old Doberman. I still have her son, Brutus. He is 9 now. I love him more than any dog I've ever known. And that's saying a lot.

Aww.... you're making my heart melt, reading about your Dobe.  Great way to choose her name, too!  Sounds like a good breed representative - GOOD GIRL!  She's probably guarding the Rainbow Bridge now.

I loved your post about Boo.  I've been living with Dobermans for the past 15 years and loving every minute of it.

I currently have one Doberbrat, Raven who is the love of my life.  She and her faithful compainion Loki (Australian Shepherd aka chew toy) bring so much joy to my life.  They help to keep the insanity at arms length (winks).

Raven is now 2 and is black and tan.  She is docked and cropped, but her ears look more like flying nun ears than stand up and notice me ears.  She melts hearts  where ever we go and makes sure that everyone pays homage to the Diva that she is.  She thinks everyone was put on this Earth to pet her until she's finished with them.  She has a classic smile that will make people run for the hills if they don't know she's smiling which only makes her smile (sneeze) smile (sneeze) more.

She's very regal and graceful, but yet she is the goofiest clown I've ever seen.

I've had many dogs in my life and loved them all, BUT...Old Boo was so unique and so is her son, Brutus. He is the "dog-love" of my life! He is even more of a goofy-clown-dog than his mother was. He makes me squeal with delight and laugh so hard I have to wipe the tears out of my eyes! No other dog has ever done that. He's 9 now, but when he was younger he would leap high in the air, run as fast as he could with his tail between his legs and jump up and crash-land in his "pond." (An old boat full of water & fish) He would come up out of the water with a big purple lily on his head! (or a big blob of mud) The more I screamed with laughter, the crazier he would act. What a dog. Someday when he goes to live with Shilo the Duke of Wayne, Casper, Snarly, Tweeky, Little Sister and Boo in the Rainbow Ridge, I don't know what I'll do. Anyway, he still makes me laugh, but he has to be careful flying through the air because he is old and has arthritis. I mostly just sit and hold him now. He is half "large orange dog" and half Doberman, but he has all the Dobie traits.

Brutus sounds likes a wonderful dog as well.  What a clown he must be.

They touch our hearts but remain one with our souls for etenity.  They keep us young and gift us with laughter and love.

I don't know what I'll do when Raven takes the long Journey home, but I'm looking forward to our long journey together.

Hi MaryWillow - this is the corniest post I've ever posted, but I can't resist: this is a poem I wrote for Brutus. It goes with the tune from the song "She Was Only 16" -
    Well, he's only a dog - only a dog -
But I love him so -
Someday when we depart this life -
We'll meet in the sky, I know. (Corny, huh? ha ha)
I sing it to him and he likes it. But I'm hoping he'll be around for many more years!

That is too cute!!  I can just picture him going all goofy while you sing it too him too.

It's so nice to hear about your dogs and how deeply you feel for them!! It is definitely something I can relate to and I know when my Duffy leaves me I'll honour him with a new Dobe, never to erase the memories of him but to add to all the great Dobe memories I will have with me forever!!!

    Take care: Scott
