When I think of a Pitbull, I think of a medium sized solid dog with a nice blocky melon.

I think of my baby, ha ha! A short stocky dog with a smooth coat, muscular, and a big toothy smile. Check out this site, its a pit bull test to see how well you know the breed. It is intended for people who have misconceptions about the breed but its fun all the same, even as a APBT owner it took me a couple of tries!

This would be my thoughts when thinking of a Red/red nosed APBT

When I think "Pit Bull" I think of one of those out of proportion low-slung Razor's edge dogs.  Dunno why.  [linkhttp://www.navalinepits.com/240Gotti.JPG]http://www.navalinepits.com/240Gotti.JPG[/link] (I think this is actually Gotti, but it doesn't really matter)
When I think of APBT I think of game dogs.  The incredibly conditioned little ones.  You know the ones people always photograph pulling against a leash with their butts almost touching the ground?  [linkhttp://www.nelsonbredbulldogs.net/COLBY'S%20FIGHTING%20RUSTY.jpg]http://www.nelsonbredbulldogs.net/COLBY'S%20FIGHTING%20RUSTY.jpg[/link]
I don't think they should be considered the same breed...

thanks for the replies everyone..i know the APBT breed very well, i just wanted to see what some of you thought a true APBT looked like... i really hate seeing those 130lb short wide bullys..its not what a pit bull is SUPPOSED to look like..a true pit bull typically weighs between 30-50lbs..i would love to have a pittie one day soon, but im just so picky, short and wide IMO, is not a pit bull.and thats what most people are breeding for now-a-days..here is a picture of a true gorgeous APBT

Oh you mean to tell me bigger isn't better???? ROFLMAO!!

I too HATE to see these "new" bred dogs who look more like a bulldog cross with huge wide fronts, bowing legs, heads like double bowling balls...those are not the true breed of an APBT.
I am not real into the lean look, I like a little substance mixed in with muscle but surely, the extra bully turns me off too.

I wish you much success in your new companion...of course I'll want to see pictures when that day comes!

Here's a good video about the big blue dogs.  [linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9nnF1AeY6A&search=pit%20bull%20]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9nnF1AeY6A&search=pit%20bull%20[/link]  It's very educational and quite fun to watch.

lol...Bigger is better in my eyes, i AM a dane owner after all lol..but when it comes to ;pitties..i cant stand seeing all of these breeders and their giant "blue hippos"..they breed them for all the wrong reasons, they are just a fashion accessory to add to their "tough guy" image..its a discrase to the breed... [:'(] ....lmao

    Hello!,
About a year ago we were fostering a Pit mix in an emergency situation. The older couple who had this 8 month old pup were triing to get him put down because he was "rambunctious".Imagine that,a puppy?

Anyway,he was physically more as you described him with the stocky body and wide head ...May have had something to do with the Yellow Lab Father.Sad to see people breeding dogs like this.

Anyway,i loved this dog, aznd if it hadnt been for my husky not allowing him into my home,i would still have him...never had an expierience with a pit,but this guy was a lover, and liked to be spooned at night and would snore..lol

We did find him a great home and see him occasionally...great guy...anyway,sorry to hijack the thread...just that i feel bad for the bad wrap these dogs get when it is probably 99% the owners and breeders fault they get in trouble.
