dashound puppy, tell me about them!!

We recently adopted a dashound puppy.  He is 3 and a half months old and is a parvo survivor.  I dont know anything about this breed.  Does anyone have these type of dogs?  He is sooooo sweet and loving, and very smart.  Please tell me more!!  I am crate training him and potty training is going pretty well.

Just to warn you, it's spelled Dachshund.  Our neighbor down the street has the sweetest little one.  There is something wrong with his back and he's stuck in a wheelchair(the dog, not the person).  Even with that, he just keeps going.  I've never kept one myself, but there is one that was adopted from the humane society a year or two ago and she comes back to board.  She's really sweet.  The poor little thing is allergic to grass though.  Too bad she's so low to the ground.  Then there were the three minidachs that made a pit stop at the shelter.  They were only going to be there for a night and they were too small for the kennels, so we just baby-gated them into the bunny room.  They could barely reach the hutches, but they still tried to make friends with the rabbits.  They're such determined little dogs.  Have fun with your little puppy!

Yup, it's spelled Dachshund (pronounced dox - und). It's totally understandable since your new to the breed that you didn't know! [:)] I once worked with a girl at a vet office that had worked at a different vet for 5 YEARS and called the breed Dash hound. Apparently no one had corrected her and let her go around saying it wrong for years. I would have wanted someone to tell me! [&:]

Anyway, my sister that lives out of state has always loved Dachshunds. She had a dapple colored one for many years. That little guy had a lot of personality and loved stuffed animals.

Here's a little bit of info on the breed:

i took in a friends doxy about 1 1/2 years ago, they were having a baby and couldnt keep poor taquito anymore, so i took him in and found him a new forever home with someone else. Anyways he was a very sweet little guy, very playful and loving. Im more of a large breed person, but Dachshunds are one of my favorite small breeds

My Roxy is a doxy mix.  She is very stubborn, but we just love her.

The very best thing you can do for your dog is to not allow him to get overweight.  Doxies are prone to back trouble and the extra weight can really cause problems.

Post pictures.  I would love to see your little guy!
