Mini Schnauzers???

Yes Liz, what are you feeding her (ie, what food for meals and what treats). What is she throwing up? Food? Yellow foamy bile (from empty stomach). Schnauzers are prone to certain diseases that can be brought on by being overweight so just make sure you're not feeding her too much total. Also, they should stay at or around 12% fat in whatever you're feeding. They don't need much food and yes, they always act like they're starving. Mine does, at least! [:)] My dog's 20 lbs. but very lean and long legged (a large mini). She only gets 1 cup of kibble per day and we really limit snacks and treats (most days she doesn't get any). We feed her 1/2 cup food in the a.m. and 1/2 cup at suppertime. The only time she threw up yellow foam from an empty stomach was when I switched kibble, because the new kibble only called for half the amount of the old kibble. She only did that one or two days.

Thanks for the responsed re:  Spiffy throwing up. When we got her the weight was 12#. First vet recommended Eukeneba-  1/2 c at 7 am and 1/2 c at 6pm. After checking around we found another vet I was really impressed with He switched to NutroMax -same proportions. So this is what she gets along with some treats, which don't amount to much. Mostly just a NutroMax kibble a few times a day and probably a total of l-2 small dog biscuits per day (We break them up).  She is currently 18# and he considers this just about right. Might be just a little underweight.  As to what she throws up- it is similar to siliva. A clear color and actually very little of this. It is just the act that concerns me a little. We have moved the feeding time back to now 5pm and are considering trying 4:30.  Other than this she is very healthy.      Liz

Your time of feeding her is right. But maybe its the food? Different dogs have different reactions to different foods. And I wouldn't give her treats as often. Maybe its the treats?

Ok, well, I just joined this community, and I am just giving you some support for getting our on thread...[:D]

    well, this is Fiona..

I give her two meals a day, one in the morning and one at night. I usually give her can food with dry food, since she won't eat dry food, what do you guys give your shcnauzers?

My mini gets home prepared and raw - fed twice a day.

Gosh, the pictures of everyone else's Scnhauzers look so neat and clean - am I the only one with a dog that looks like he just rolled out of bed within minutes of grooming?

    Mau, you're doing everything right[:D].
Lovenewfies, you're not the only one

Thanks - I feel better now.  The little guy is so darned cute, but, as I said, he always looks like he has bed head or just crawled out of a garbage can.  He is a messy little thing and honestly, it doesn't matter how often I brush and groom him.

They are sprited little dogs, aren't they?
    • Gold Top Dog
Oh, yes they sure are spirited little dogs! Bruno only looks good after his haircut, otherwise he JUST HAS to poke into everything!

Gail, here's a pic of  my little scraggly-butt Skyler before his last grooming.  He cleans up nice, but within a day - he gets his hair sticking out all over the place again.

Thanks guys, I feel better now.  George gets a good grooming and I swear as soon as I put him down, he's a mess again.  Honestly, he'll go flipping pillows off the beds and furniture with his head, dunk his face in the water bowl, ask to go outside, then roll around in the leaves.  He just loves to be a mess and poke his nose into everything.

He's a love, though.  Unique little dog.

Oh, don't worry approximatly a day after bringing Bruno home he's all curly again[:)].

What you see in our picture was taken in the fall. Because of a very thin coat of hair, the vet said  to wait until March for a grooming. So, I'll bet we would take the cake for the an "unkempt" look! I think I spent all winter using the dematter and little brush. As a matter of fact, tomorrow is grooming day. Liz

Ohh! Good luck![:D]Bruno hates going for grooming. Post pics.
