Australian Cattle Dogs (can you say herd?)

We adopted Jasmine almost 2 years ago, from the shelter.  Who couldn't love a cute, black and tan dog, all speckled with white?  I swear she knew we were her forever friends, even when she was still at the shelter and we hadn't even had a chance to pet her yet.

She won't nip at my heels, but she still does it sometimes, to the 13yo at my house.  What she does to me, is nudge my legs with her nose!  I often get the feeling I'm being steered somewhere, like to the door, if she wants to go in the car!  LOL!

She is my best buddy, and it's hard to imagine having any other dog!  When she wants to, it's so fun to watch her race down the yard, to get her tennis ball. (Sometimes, she can't be bothered!  LOL!)  Although, right now, the snow isn't very stable and it's hard to walk on.  I think she is looking forward to grass again, too!

So Dawn can I hijack your initial reason for starting this thread to something else but still involving cattle dogs?

Could you post a few pictures of your cattle dog?  Say, one from the side and one straight on but both full body?   Every one that meets Tasha asks if she's a cattle dog and since you started a thread on cattle dogs....  [sm=proud.gif]

If it's ok with you, I'll get together a couple of Tasha as well.  If you don't want to, that's fine too!  I'll start a new one, but I thought this would be a good spot. [:)]

Tasha doesn't herd or fetch or anything.  She's very submissive to me but bullies one of our other dogs.  Though she had fun last summer chasing the neighbors calves back into the pasture.

I wonder if your dog is an Australian cattle dog/Australian Shepherd mix.  I'm hardly an expert on dog breeds, though!  In the third picture, I sure see a cattledog face, though!

Yeah I'm just amazed by the number of people that ask if she's a cattle dog.  She's 21 at the shoulders and weighs about 50 pounds.  And in that first picture, her tail is only at 3/4 mast...  lol.  Meaning that when it's fully erect, it's more like a chow/sharpei/husky/pomeranian tail.  Curly Q!!

Tashakota- I agree with Dawnk777. She looks like she has a cattle dog face. Her coat does look more Australian Shepherd though. Very Cute.

    Dawnk777- Jasmine is BEAUTIFUL!

We (my 2 room-mates and I) had an ACD for about 6 months, her name was Sage. We found her on the streets of Fort Worth, hungry and skinny and scared. We took her home and fed her and gave her a great home- but for roaming around the streets for so long we found out she was very old (perhaps 13 or 14) and she had severe heartworm. She was not spayed, so that may have caused the tensions between her and Daisy- (bitch fights are the worst). She was VERY food aggressive, so we separated all the dogs for dinner-time. She was amazingly sweet to people and liked to crawl on her belly and dance for you!

She was deaf and going blind, so she would startle very easily. If you walked by her when she was sleeping, she'd freak and nip at your pants leg. She was always on alert and very paranoid as if everything was out to get her.
When the first cold front came through, her true age started to show and she couldn't get up to go to the bathroom and when she finally got up there was a big wet spot while she was laying (she hung her head in shame) , we knew it was time.

Hopefully she was happy with her last couple of months on this earth, we hope it was better than the rest. (she was probably abused, as she was very hand/head shy; we don't know if this was because of her being partially blind or abused.)

To Sage- Age unknown- went to the bridge November 16, 2005

Poor Sage.  Sounds like she had a hard life.  You helped make the last 6 months easier.  Sorry you lost her not too long ago.

Could be an Aussie mix, or Catahoula mix.  Where did she come from?

Jasmine does what Sequoyah does, LOL.  The nose poke is very common among all the different cattle dogs.  She's trying to move you - are you in her way?

Sometimes, I think I am in Jasmine's way and sometimes I think I'm just moving to the door, too slowly for her taste!  She is nuts about going for car rides!  Other times, it happens as we move to the basement towards her food!  LOL!

Now that you mention Catahoula, they do have big spots like that, but not the fluffy tail!

I'm wondering if she's got Husky in here.  I'll try to get a pic of her tail so you know why I keep saying this.

Ok here's some pics of her tail.
