    English Mastiff

Hi there. I am researching English Mastiffs because I am interested in getting one male and one female. Not so that I can breed them, mind you, but for companionship. A couple of years ago, I was watching animal planet on television, and someone was showing there English Mastiff. I fell in love instantly. Now I'm in no position to have dogs, because I am a full time student trying to finish my RN degree and am also renting, but when I am done with school, I am going to by a house in the country and get my English Mastiffs. I guess I'm telling you this, because I don't want to get my puppies from just anyone. I really want to make sure that my dogs come from reputable breeder with excellent HEALTHY bloodlines. I want my dogs to live to their fullest potential. I have read that Mastiffs only live for 10 years or so. I would like to make sure that that happens for my dogs. If you have any information for me as to how I can go about finding reputable breeders and what else you may feel may be helpful for me to know about the breed, I would greatly appreciate any and all information. Thank you in advance.

Another first step is to find and go to dog shows in your area.  Watch the mastiffs in the ring and afterwards speak to the handlers/owners.  The owners/breeders/handlers have alot of information to share.  They'll also know of upcoming breedings or rescues.

Best of luck and thanks for doing your research BEFORE you get the dogs.
