    What Is Archie?

Hi guys. I just adopted Archie a week ago. A family friend who is a vet said that he was mostly Basset and Rhodesian Ridgeback. An unusual combo to say the least, but it makes sense b/c he's very long, short and stubborn (Basset) and has the coloring and some facial characteristic of a Rhodesian. I also think he's gotta have some dachshund in him.

Take a look and let me know what you think ... thanks!

I think your right on with the Dachshund, hes a very cute dog.  Basset is possible, but its not as prevelent as the Dachshund.

Perhaps he's Dachshund/Lab?  Both Dachshund and Basset give very similar body shapes - long and knobble-kneed, but his face looks much more Dachshund to me than Basset.  And it looks like his coat could have some Lab in it because it's longer than a Dachshund and I know Labs can be that color.  He's certainly very handsome and looks very...dignified almost!

I really doubt that he'd be that small if he were Bassett Hound mixed with a Rhodesian Ridgeback.

He looks a lot like a Dachshund. My guess for the other half would be Beagle, his ears look Beagly and his body looks like a slightly long Beagle. He's about the right size for being a Dachshund/Beagle mix also.

I couldn't see the top of his back really well, does he have the 'rodesian ridge' that goes down his spine.
I see more doxie than basset too.

He doesn't have a distinct ridge like a Rhodesian, but when he's agitated, his fur does seem to stand up a little differently than other dogs I've had.

The main reason I bought into the Rhodesian argument is his coloring--he has deep russet fur and black skin. I've also heard that Rhodesians are extremely particular about where they go potty, as is Archie.

Whether doxie, basset and/or beagle, he's definitely a hound. Stubborn as a mule!
