Mini Siberian Huskies???

    Mini Siberian Huskies???

Okay, while surfing the net about siberian huskies ( we just got a husky/gsd mix)  I found a breeder site that claimed to breed mini siberians. And how they breed smaller huskies with one another and keep going until they get the desired size.  Which is about 10-15 inches tall and less then 25lbs! This disturbed *me* a great deal, how is that healthy for the dogs?? It just seems like the breeder is trying to cash in on the new found craze with tiny dogs.

Is this common practice?? I will try and find the site again.

It's NOT healthy for the dogs, anymore than those little itty bitty poodles that would fit in your shirt pocket..............yep, back yard breeders and puppy millers are in it for nothing but the cash.[:@]

Breeding for a single trait is *never* healthy for the individual, or the breed as a whole.

I've not heard of mini siberians, but I've heard of Alaskan Klee Kai, which resemble small huskies..   [linkhttp://www.alaskankleekai.com/]http://www.alaskankleekai.com/[/link]

Were they maybe talking about Alaskan Klee Kai? The breed is relatively new and basically a miniature Alaskan Husky.

I don't think they were, as they said they breed the smallest huskies together and keep going until they get the desired size. I have seen the Klee Kai, but I think this is something different.

I looked at their website and they truly are breeding "miniature" Siberian Huskies. I don't see how they can expect anyone to take them seriously. Their "national breed club" is linked below. It's an ezboard forum which ANYONE can make! Not to mention there is absolutely no information about their "breed". There's no breed standard, no mission statement, no organization whatsoever. Who has a message board as their breed club??? It's ridiculous.

Your right; the only breed that I can think of that looks like a mini siberian is the Klee Kai. That is disgusting.

well, I sent an e-mail to this site and asked about the prices of their pups, but no one got back to me..something is really fishy about this lasy and her dogs..

I'd absolutely stay away from anybody who's breeding "mini-Siberians." Alaskan Klee Kai is completely diff. and has a few responsible breeders across North America. I remember somebody on the board had two Klee Kais, but that was a while ago...

Yea, I am staying away. I was just curious I have NO intentions of buying a "mini husky" I just adopted a hsuky/gsd mix from the local humane society and I  adore her already!!

Amen, jennie.  Sometimes, if you shrink the dog, you shrink the brain...

I don't understand it.  Why would anyone want smaller huskies?  so you can run 30 dogs instead of 18?  Obviously they wouldnt be used for sledding, so what would they be bred for?
