    Dachshunds

What type of harness do you use to stop the dog from pulling?  I have used the sporn harness effectively but I think it is rubbing under her armpits.  It doesn't seem to bother her, but I saw a rub mark I don't want to make worse.  I have heard of easy walk, but I don't know that it would fit her correctly.  Also, I have heard of the hugadox harnesses but I feel like it might make her hot.  Do regular harnesses work well for pulling or would it need to be an antipull style?

Regular harnesses don't stop pulling, at all:)

I've got an Easy Walk coming in the mail. It's Emma's, but if it works on Teeeeeeeeeeenie, I'm going to get one for her, too. They're about the same size. Doxie legs pop out of things, though:) I'll let you know how it works for us.

definitely let me know.  Have you heard of hug a dox harnesses?  Almost everyone on the dachsie board I go on has one or makes them but they are kinda pricey.  What I need to do is find someone who sews and ask one of those people for the pattern and have someone make it for me.  I heard it works for pulling but is good for their backs and is very cute (although I think it would be hot in the summer except for the mesh ones).  The link is [linkhttp://www.doxidelights.com]www.doxidelights.com[/link] I think.  Maybe no s on the end.

Anyway, I am trying to find something that won't rub.  Zoe's legs are a bit longer so the easywalk may work. Or, maybe I will try a simple no pull harness and if it doesn't work, I can always return it :).

I've seen the hug a dox harnesses and I have no clue how they're supposed to help with pulling. It looks like they could pull just fine in it, and I'm not all that willing to spend $30 on a harness. Emma's Easy Walk is a custom size and color, and cost me $22.

I haven't found much that doesn't rub, especially if you like those nice, long runs like we do. Emma gets rubbed. Teenie doesn't. I don't know why. Wearing the harness loose seems to help (we use standard nylon harnesses, and they're allowed to pull on bike runs and regular walks. training is seperate from walking).

We got a Sporn lookalike at Walmart, and none of us like it. Emma leans into it and pulls harder than a regular harness. Teenie pulls a tiny smidge less, but her legs pop out, LOL.

Where are you getting the easywalk so inexpensively?  I wonder what size Zoe would be.  A friend of mine works at petsmart and gets some stuff at a steep discount.

I think the woman is emailing me the hugadox pattern and if I can find someone to make one for me (if I buy the supplies) I may try it.  I think they are cute, and definitely unique.  Everyone thinks she is adorable wherever we go.  People just love dachshunds!  We went to an outdoor festival and had like 10 people asking to play and hold her during our first 5 minutes there.  I was standing outside trader joe's and a woman saw me with her and said it makes her want another one since hers passed a few yrs. ago and she is now elderly.  They just seem to bring smiles to people's faces.  Definitely mine!

The lady is great to deal with. Really nice, and she has two of my FAVORITE breeds. A Dobie and a Standard Poodle.

Her stuff is inexpensive, especially since she will ship regular mail.  She is only 4 hours from me so I'd imagine it wouldn't cost too much.  What do you mean you are getting a custom fit one?  How does that work?  I think Zoe would be a size small but I'd need to measure her for sure.  Definitely let me know if it works on Teenie.  Falling off Zoe's legs wouldn't be much of an issue.

It's a small/medium. 18-24". It's mostly because they didn't have the color I wanted in the size used for the small harness. I wanted an electric green easy walk. I also got a Premier martingale collar and leash to match.

I wish they had pink!  I have red stuff for Zoe now but want more pink and her winter sweaters are pink so people know she is a girl not a boy!  She does look nice in red though so I can do that.  I will just deal with it in the winter or use my sporn then since it is over a sweater and won't rub her :).

Email Faith and tell her you want pink! It costs $6 extra, and takes longer, but she'll get Premier to make it for you:)

OK, so someone with the pattern for the hugadox is making Zoe one for free.  How sweet are some people!  I am also seeking out a cheaper Easy walk via my petsmart connection but may order from your site.  Here's my dilemma.  Zoe is 15" exactly girth.  I don't know if I should get petite 12" to 16" I think or small 15" -20".  I was thinking small since it is a little thicker and I don't consider Zoe a toy breed but they say to fit it snug so the petite may be better.  As of now I asked my friend if he can get either and then if it doesn't fit I can exchange it for the other size.  All this harness talk... ahh.  I just want one so Zoe can walk easily again (I don't want to do longer walks right now with the possibility of the other one rubbing more).

Canine Equipment's Safety Harness.  This is a Cdn. product.  It is bib like in front, lined with a soft lining, goes under stomach and buckles at back.  My last little dappled Dachshund had one and it did not cause any chafing under his little arm pits or to his sensitive skin.  My current pup - an American Eskimo - has a few - they are great for the little puller.  I can't tell you how many Dachshund owners have asked me where I bought this harness when they see my Eskie wearing it.  Some clients asked if a "summer version" would be available, but this is a year round harness - the lining really helps with the chafing.  So, bowing to customer demand, they have come out with a light blue and a mid pink for summer.  My girly guy is getting a light blue - although he looks stunning in pink - too bad that no one to date has every taken him to be a boy so no sense making it worse.

eskie... do you have a web site for that harness?  Is it sold in the US?

Jennie... you'll be happy to know on the dachshund board I go on a bunch of people have also had success with the easy walk and said the legs being short were not an issue :).

That's good to hear, Stacy. For my little harness slipper (Teenie backs out of harnesses if she thinks I'm going the wrong way), I think I'll connect a short coupler to the harness, and her collar, or her collar and leash. She may not be able to back out of the easy walk. I dunno. I guess I'll see when it gets here:)
