Purebred sheltie or not?

The more I look at him, the more sure I am he's a collie x sheltie cross.

firstly, I've seen tails that gay in collies- Wings' half sister that we met when I got her had a horrible gay tail like that. And his head is so much more collie-ish than sheltieish.

I don't want to be seeing Border Collies under every rock, but I've seen quite a few known Border collie sheltie crosses and that little guy looks very like. All the Border Collie typically does to a Sheltie cross is moderate the looks - more stop, broader head, less hair, push the height towards average.

White factoring is very common among Border Collies. If the Sheltie parent was even slightly white factored, probably 3/4 of the BC population would throw white pups. Even many working breeders are aware of the white issue and try to take care - whites are perceived to be a risk for hearing problems.

    I've never met a BC/Sheltie I didn't like. Good luck!

His head does look much more like a collie than a sheltie, but I have seen some poorly bred shelties that I would've sworn were collies when I saw them.  They have that collie head.

Thanks for all your replies. I heard back from the shelter today, and they said he is still available and they are looking over my application and they will let me know by Friday if I am approved. If I am approved I can see him on Saturday. For some reason they do adoptions on Saturday only. I still know basically nothing about him, so I have alot of questions for the shelter. I guess the best thing to do is spend as much time with him as possible, if I get to see him.

Interestingly, they just updated this guys petfinder page to say sheltie x eskie. Before it said purebred. It also says he was origionally sold in a petstore as a designer breed, but his owner turned him in b/c "it didn't work out".

He may just be poorly bred. My collie has a "curvy" tail annd it looks just like that dogs tail. Also maybe he just never got his hair all in coreectly. Pretty much looks like a pure shelte to me. There is tons that are poorly bred. (including my collie/sheltie what ever you wanna call my dog lol. he was sold to me as a sheltie, but he is way to tall for one, to small for a collie bu has a collies build and weight. hence I just call him a collie.)

i say meet the dog before you judge by its tail. my mom's collie/sheltie was a VERY dominant minded dog and always carried her tail over her back in the presence of strangers (dogs, people, other animals) but when it was just us her tail was usually down in a normal relaxed position
    dominant tail positions

i dont have any more pictures of her on this computer or i would show you the difference...but i do think you should see him for yourself. i see a lot of collie in him. and he looks like Maggie did when she was at the age 2.. she was overweight in the above pictures.... my mom started feeding her corned beef hash and campbell's beef stew after i moved out, and never walked the dog[8|]

Hmm... now that you mention it, I've heard of that 'designer breed' before.  Eskland or something liek that.  That could very well be the case with this dog.

    I just googled it.

Looks like that could be right.

Very cute dog, as long as you know what you are getting into.  As you probably know, Shelties are barkers to the maxx, and so are Eskies!  You'll definitely have a yapper on your hands, that's a double whammy!  [;)]
