    What am I mixed with?

I present: Ivan the Terrible.  He was a rescue from an abandoned litter of 12.  We're pretty sure he had a good chunk of Rhodesian Ridgeback, but what else?  he didn't have a ridge. He was 69 lbs full grown, though he looked bigger than that.

Did any other pup have a ridge? I see more Dane than Ridgeback, personally...the "flewey" lips and chiseled head.

Looks a lot like a Ridgie without a ridge, maybe a cur or cur mix, or Dane mix.

I've thought about Dane because of his head, but Danes are big and Ivan was much smaller than that.  I don't know if any of the other pups had a ridge.

As for the ridgeback, we'd have people stop us on the street and ask us if he was RR quite frequently.  I tried to pick pictures that would show the ways he didn't look ridgeback-y.  As a pup, he looked like a purebred ridgeless RR, but as he grew some differences emerged.

ETA - he also had a lot of RR traits. Everything great about him was classic Ridgeback. Smart, stubborn, extremely athletic but calm inside the house, prey drive up the wazoo, and that dignity that ridgies have.

I guess anything is possible...but a Lab x Dane might look just like that...right down to the scaled down size. Are Ridge mixes common in your area? Don't think I've ever seen one outside of a show, here.

He definitely looks like a ridgie to me. Tail carriage, body, face, and i've seen ears like that on an RR. However, i think in the shot that shows the side of his face he looks like a dane. I used to have an RR named Ivan :)

We have Ridgies and Ridgie mixes around here.  I run into RR's around town a few times a month.

fascinating! It's amazing how some breeds are easy to se one place and scarce elsewhere! In my area we have Lab's and lots of small/tiny dogs. Yet my neighbor has WHIPPETS lol!

There's quite a few RRs around here. For some reason, they are usually the dog of choice (along with JRTs) for thoroughbred people. I personally know about 8 ridgebacks who go to the dog park frequently. We also have TONS of pits, goldens, and labs.
