    My new dog

Here is my new pooch Hercules. I see Rott & ???  What do you guys think?  The shelter first had him listed as a Pit bull and then later changed it to a Dobbie mix.
He has the dish network thingy for about another 8 days LOL.

LOL! Look at how happy he is even with that big cone on his head. Too funny!

All I see is rott in his face but I'm not good at telling dog mixes.

Whatever he is.  He's absolutely adorable!  What a personality! [sm=wink2.gif]

I see some pit in his face.  I know this is odd but I've seen aussies with that coloring.  Curious to know what other people think.

Why is Hercules whereing the cone?

He does look like a happy boy.

he could be a rott dobie mix, since has the uniform markings and yet he is red. one parent may heva been a red dobie.

having owned a few Rotties, he definitly has the head and chest and markings for one.  I agree with DumDog that he is probably a Rottie/Dobie mix because of the Red/Rust coloring.

    cute dog! congrats! [:D]

He's beautiful. I love his coloring. He looks pit x red dobie to me, but he could be a mix of more than two things.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Aussie/Rott cross. That expression of "Hey, check out my cone! I got a cone! How cool is THAT?" It's gotta be an Aussie. Smooth coat is dominant over rough coat so most Rottie pups are going to have the short Rottie coat, no matter how long the Aussie parent's coat was. Notice the white marks - if one parent was pure Rott then the other parent had to contribute some white markings.

Put some hair on that dog and we'd be having the opposite conversation - "Definitely Aussie and what else?"

i agree with Brook now that i look at him again. my dog Frank was only partially aussie and half dobie (pure bred dad, mixed mama)
now... is his tail docked or natural? dobies and rotts have distinct tails, and well... aussies dont usually have them.

Thanks for all of the input!

First he is wearing the dish because he was just neutered 3 days ago. He doesn't even seem to know that it's there. Doesn't bother him at all.

His tail is not docked. it's natural.

Yeah he has quite a personality. He seems happy no matter what.
Good news! He barks, and now Lucky barks as well! They really like each other but they need to be separated for another 8 days so he can heal from the neutering. The shelter really did a number on the poor guy. He is all black and blue and the actuall cut they made is horible. I took him to the vet and he gave me some extra medication for the swelling and pain.

Everytime I go back to his picture, it makes me want to giggle.  He is just so sweet.  Actually, I know an aussie with that expression, too.  He had that big, full smiling face with the light eyes.[:D

Keep us posted about this guy.  Curious to see if he'll display any herding behavior.

I'm training a half Aussie and half Border Collie and I have to say that I've always had a little soft place in my heart for those loveable goofballs of the herding world. Sure, they don't take a command seriously until about the eighteenth time they hear it, but they are just so good natured about it for the most part (the well bred ones, anyway).

The Aussie breed as a whole has a natural bob tail gene, but it is recessive and a pup only has a one in four chance of having the natural bob tail. The rest that you see with no tails, are docked at birth. Some are born with half tails and most with full tails.
