    Breed Help

Hello, I was wondering if I could get thoughts and opinions on what breed mix sadie may be. I was told Cattle dog mix. My opinion is she is either Australian Cattle or Sheperd not sure which one she takes on more. And the other breed I have no idea. On her body she has large and small blue spots through out and she has brown speckles on her legs. Any ideas would be great. Thanks. And she is about 1yr at this time and she is 110mph around 20hrs. of the day, very smart.

hard to tell from just that one pic.  A lot of leg for an ACD... More pics different angles, coat description (texture and length) and height and weight could help get a more definative answer.

On this computer I dont have a side shot of her. You can see one of the spots. And yes she is quite a bit tall for a ACD, was guessing thats from the other breed that is in her. She is weighing in at 50lbs. Her height would probaly be around 21in. or so. Her coat is fairly short, some what wireyn and rough. I'm guessing she has one of the aussie breeds nut unsure of what else.

The ticking can come from sporting or herding.  I think you have  more than just two going on.  I dont think it is ACD, but there is every chance my guess is wrong.

Thank You any other ideas from anyone.

    Coolie x BC?

We have a lot of similar looking dogs come through the Drought Dogs Program for rescue and rehoming.
The working dog mix of the farmers is often Kelpie, BC, ACD or Coolie.

the pictures you posted are of a coolie? i'm guessing that is the mix of the dogs you mentioned, they look very interesting to say the least [:)]
i've only seen one dog like that ever, and she belonged to a friend of mine. She was a red merle, not blue..

to me she looks like an ACD mix. i cant tell from the pics, does she have the odd colour eyes?
The trouble with mixes is there is no way to ever know for sure. its rare that two pure breds will mix (unless it was done on purpose of course) one of her parents could have been an Aussie while the other could have come from a long generation of mutts. One way to narrow it down is look at where she came from. What neighbourhood and what dogs were popular in that area. Labs, Shepherds, Collies, Dalmatians, Bird Dogs, etc.
Where i live the dogs we see hanging out in peoples yards are usually some type of bulldog -anything from Boston to American Bulldog- While driving around one day we saw a lady walking her dog, looked like a boston terrier to me,  but my husband said it looked like a pit bull mix.. so we stopped and asked her.. she had no idea what her dog's breed was [8|]

Pretty dog!  There is something about her expression that reminds me of a Lab.  Here's some pictures of Australian Shepherd/Lab mixes.  Even tho the coloring is different, the first tow pictures kind of remind meof your dog.

Thank You all for the help, after I looked at your replies and I think that Nihaz has it. I researched Koolie on the net and the personality, characteristic and the build of the dog fits her to a T. Along w/ some other pics that I have seen. And again Thanks to everyone, I'm new here and have put my interest into dogs since My wife and I lost our Saltwater Tanks due to a ice storm that hit our area last Nov.

This is Dingo, my blue heeler mix. Somethin about your dogs face reminds me of Dingo:

She is extremely unlikely to be a Koolie. I think there's more Pharoah Hounds in North America than there are Koolies.

She is far more likely to be mostly or all Border Collie. There's many lines now that breed for agility and flyball that prefer the smooth coat and merle coloring.

Well, it took me forever but I finally found some pictures online to illustrate. There's actually a blue merle smooth on this page but the thing that is good about this breeder is that you can see the body and head shape too - there's a ton of dogs to look at - ALL purebred - that show how Border Collies don't really have one type.

Note, I do NOT recommend this breeder necessarily. In fact, there's plenty of red flags here, including the strong emphasis on "We have colors! Look at our pretty colors!"

Ok now i'm really stumped, the lady I had picked up Sadie from lived an a 1 bedroom Apt. and didnt have time for her. She stated that she had 2 brothers who were completely blue. She said she picked Sadie due to her Half blue eye. So i'm at a lost on what she maybe more of when it comes to breeds. Guess overall it really doesnt matter she is great and always attempting to do anything she can for me. Thank You

Hi, I believe I can solve your mystery.  My Jimi is an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle dog mix.  We saw both parents and are sure of it.  Jimi looks like your dog, the white with black/blue "ticks" and brown spots on the legs.

i agree with the people who said it is an australian shepherd mix. fur is much shorter than a typical aussie, but something about her body and head shape looks aussie to me.
coloring aside, her body shape and size remind me of my dog snoopy...his picture is posted on this same section...i've been trying to guess his mix, too.  see if you don't think their head shape, ear set, body type are all similar!
