Mutt mixed with what?

    Mutt mixed with what?

My friends had a mutt show up at their house a while back.  They live in the county so they get a lot of dumps.  Anyways it was sweet so they were thinking about keeping it.  It went in to heat and they put it up, but not soon enough.  It gave birth to three pupies but only one survived.  I am wondering what you think the dad is.  The puppy, named 'Snickers' by my sister, is really sweet like his mom and very laid back.

    Here is his mom

And here are some pics of him.  He is about 6 weeks in these pics.  I know it is hard to tell when they are young, but I would like to get a bit of an idea on what he is. I have a guess, but I want to know what you think.

He has some white on his chest.

My sis and him.  I think she is in love.  She really really wants to get him.  I am going to tell her to reaserch puppies and stuff because she want it to be 'her dog' like Maggie is 'my dog'  and that isn't going to happen if I am doing all the work.

I'm not any help in the mixed with what part but....
The pup is really really really cute!  Have you asked the vet?  They might have a good idea.  Sometimes they are wrong but then again if you all love the dog it shouldn't matter what the breed is or even if you know the breed right?  Well hope you get what you are looking for!

Between you and me and the wall paper I think "german shepherd" is really, really overused in many mixed breed descriptions - but in the case of the mother I think there's good reason to believe there might be a heavy dose of it in her. As to the rest, wow, who knows? Potluck!

The father is probably similiar. We know almost for sure, not lab or dobe or rottweiler, in spite of the black coat - there's got to be another allele for the rough coat in the father, since a dog that had two "smooth" genes, like 95% of labs and rotties, would have all smooth coated puppies. Maybe Golden retriever, chow, and Aussie thrown in for good measure? Or you could have one rough coated dog and almost any other dog, as long as it's one generation removed - then you can throw in Rottie or lab or just about anything.

Really cute dog and looks like it will grow up to be a nice one. Mutts really do rock.

    Aina,

How was the mother around the puppy when you went to hold him/her?  Or did they even have the mother around when you picked up the puppy?

We were thinking chow, but he has no black on his tounge.  I think he is going to grow up to be a very handome dog and great with kids.

The mother was right near us while we picked him up.  She is really laid back and was fine when we were messing with her puppy.  She is really good with their kids, a good thing since they have seven under 15. She just loves to be loved.  The kids are outside all the time with her (they homeschool) and she follows them around and stuff.  I think the only bad habit she has is chasing one of their cats, but she doesn't chase the outside cat.

the mom looks like a old-fashioned german shepherd (actual breed) unless she has floppy ears. but the puppy is definitely part newfoundland! good luck he's gonna get big.

i see a chow's face all the way, POSSIBLY Akita.....and golden, then again she is very dusky so there is a chance for some coyote blood, you said you were in the country, right? And she had a small litter, VERY small so its still likely to be
some kind of wild canid mix.
What do her ears look like? up or down, or kinda floppy but pointy?
Of course, just to agree with some others, its possible she is a shepherd/goldenXrotti or some variation thereof.
which would explain why i am seeing chow... a mix like that can make a dog look like ANYthing.
The black on the pups toes suggest, to me, a lot of rotti, which could also be expounded up by the shepherd blood....
of course... he may not keep such uniform colours.
i had a dobie/aussiexpit a few years ago... as a puppy he looked like a little rotti pup. people often mistook him for a rot.
but when he was fullgrown he looked like a Harrier with a tail shaped like a questionmark. if anyone had to guess, they would have said he was a hound mix.. but i knew both parents.
