    Black Russian Terrier

Hi there!  I'm researching breeds and wonder if anyone here has owned or has personal knowledge of Black Russian Terriers.  I've researched them, but would like to speak with anyone who has actually met them.

    Thanks!!

Read the breed standard with regard to temperament.  I think you will find that although they are handsome dogs, they are not for the first time owner, or for anyone who cannot manage a real working dog personality.  They were intended as guardians (read manstoppers) and retain the temperament necessary to do that job.
I have had one go through my puppy class recently, and while he did well, I pray for his owner, since I am not sure she will be able to handle him when he's two...

I've met some really nasty ones (sadly, at dog shows!) and I've met one very, very sweet one. The sweeto ne came from a shelter who had labeled him as such, and I strongly suspect he's a Bouvier mix. I think the Bouvs are MUCH nicer pets and companions- while they're not an EASY dog, they just seem to be more stable and I have met many more that are happy to be active family pets.

Search for a breed club website and the contact info on that site.  That will help you find persons with alot of experience that will tell you the good, the bad and the ugly of the BRT.

Well I've researched them and I see they are rare! They seem very cool though! they also don't have a rescue of their own! :( I've seen one on a video and it was very sweet!

My australian shep. was hard to train becuase I had an other puppy devil... anyways when I got her training down she became the loyalist she ever was and she loved the death outa me and not out of strangers though.. until she knew them... I'm saying maybe they are like that, your gaurd dog, great for being alone!

I've only met them at shows, beautiful dogs, but definitely not for the inexperienced owner.

Thank you everyone for your input.  I think I will go find a few websites for the breed and try to make contact there as well.  (Thanks for the suggestion Xerxes).

I really LOVE everything about Weimaraners - protective, affectionate, playful, loyal and looks.  However I know that there is NO way possible that I can deal with their energy level.  Ideally, I would like a dog that can mellow with a daily 30-45 min. walk and going to the dog park maybe 2 times a week.

I don't much care about size, coat or looks... except drooling.  Lol... no drooling!  I am open really because I just love dogs.  :)  Aaaaanyway... if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.  Thanks again to those who replied!!

If you don't care as to size looks, etc, check out your local all-breed rescue or shelter. Try browsing Petfinder.orghttp://petfinder.org - just pop in your zip code and your preferences as to age, size (if any), sex (if you prefer male or female), breed (you don't have to fille that one in at all). No matter where you live I guarantee you will be stunned by how many nice dogs come up.

You can also get a lot of nice dogs through rescue, if you have your heart set on a particular breed.  And another plus is that if you adopt you have a better chance to assess the dog's adult temperament.

My recommendation, when you are good and ready go down to your local shelter and find a wonderful friend who needs you.
