Want to take some guesses at what heidi is?

THis is Heidi, we have had her since September and she always gets odd stares because she is such a unique looking dog.

She weighs about 40 pounds and her temperment is as follows:

    Sweet as honey
    Gentle...let me emphasize that: GENTLE
Calm mannered but can be quite active
    Loves to sleep
Loves to take long walks but tires very quickly
Can predict both seizures and migraines
She is tolerant. Okay, that needs to be emphasized again. She is TOLERANT. She allows the kids to use her as a pillow, and has taken a bit of abuse from visiting toddlers. She answers rough behavior with a look that says, "God, I am in heaven at this house." and a lick to the face.
She is a tease to our other dog, but playful and loving.
Oh, and she is TOLERANT to our little terrier. Heidi will just sit and take multiple humpings and having her toys stolen, but when she is done, she is done. She will stare Sally down, put a paw forward, and that is the end of that.
She is smart enough to know commands, stubborn enough to make you think she doesn't

So, what do YOU think she is. I will post what the vet's guess is after a bit.

durn. I will look around and figure out how to post pictures.

Okay, I figured it out! Here are some body shots, the little white doggy is our Sally and she and Heidi are best friends.

Right away I see JRT/basset hound.
Her description seems to favor the basset but I do see little hints of JRT in her mix.

She sure is a cuttie and very unique little dog![;)]

The looooong and slender nose/muzzle and piebald pattern and leg structure suggests Dachshund...and Jack Russell would also fit in. While 40lbs is heavy for a Standard Dachs they can run to 32lbs by thier standard...

MOST Basset mixes favor them around the head area...the genes for the flews, loose wrinkled skin, heavy muzzle, and large heavy ear seem very dominant...so I kinda stop short of thinking Basset. But...could be...

Her dwarfism is interesting as it seems ony the front legs are crooked and somewhat stunted in appearance. In the rear she seems quite sound and straight...to the hocks incline inwards or outwards at all? Does she slope forward towards the front?

I will put in a conservative guess of Dachshund X Jack Russell

I should also add that she is built like a powerhouse. She is solid muscle and could probably knock down a brick wall if she wanted too. You can see her muscles rippling when she runs (which isn't often).

Sally, the little white dog is possibly a full JRT (according to the vet) and I dont see any similarities between the two, especially when it comes to size

Oh, and I thought of another personality trait. Heidi is the biggest chewer I have EVER heard of. And she doesn;t just chew, she devours whatever it is she chews. She has eaten chairs, toys, shoes, she adores to eat paper, she has eaten a soda bottle, a table leg, several pillows...and on an on. She scouts around the house, nose to ground, and as soon as she bumps into anything, she eats it.

It is easy to get things away from her. I was even able to take a chicken carcass out of her mouth, but those jaws of hers ar STRONG.

Hee hee, thought of somthing else. She is a quiet girl. She has a play bark, when she is inviting Sally to play. We hear it about once a week. And at least once a day, when I haven;t taken her out soon enough, she will give three deep deep barks. We hardly ever hear her speak. But she does snore!

    I'm thinking dauschund/corgi/JRT. She's cute!

I would actually guess corgi x, possibly with ACD or pointer- something ticked. The front is very typical of a Cardi, and the head really looks like a Cardi in shape as well, particularly with the nice square muzzle. While Cardi mixes aren't common at all, they *are* out there. Pems don't have the crooked front (well, they're not supposed to, and the only Pems I've seen with a front like that are way, waay off breed standard and she'd have to get the bone and heavy muzzle from the other side, plus they tend to be smaller)

    corgi/pit?? Basset/pit?

Here is what we have been told

    by the shelter: Corgi mix

by our vet: Basset Terrier mix

by the kennel workers: Basset Bull Terrier mix

by the secondary vet (who we had to see for an emergency)- Basset (LOTS of Basset) and Corgi, and probably some pointer

By the dog trainer: Basset, Bull Terrier, and douschund

By the dog behaviorist: Basset and corgi

And we have heard everything else that you guys have mentiones- EXCEPT Jack Russell Terrier.

I think the things we get the most are Corgi, Basset, and Bull Terrier (I am not even sure what a Bull Terrier is, is it the same as a Pitt Bull? Sometimes they say "American Bull Terrier. Is that the same as a Pitt Bull too. IMO, she has a bullishness in her chest. All her strength is focused right in that area, and boy is she ever strong. i think personality wise that she probably favors a Basset. But I have never owned a Basset lol. I don't really have a clue.

And, I forgot to say, she did have a habit of ankle nipping while trying to herd. THat's a Corgi trait isn't it?

Anyhow, when people ask, I say she i a wonder mutt but probably a Corgi Basset mix.
