Registration Names

Rose is Rocky Point Wildwood Flower and her brother was Rocky Point Ring of Fire.  They were born around the time that Johnny Cash died.  Colton is Sandplum Ridge Colton.  I could not think of a good name so my mentor said he heard the name Colton and liked it.  He also likes to keep his names simple.  I thought it fit him, so Colton he is!  Rose's babies are Sandplum Ridge Louis...like Louis Armstrong...and Sandplum Ridge Cash...like Johnny Cash.  I wanted them to have names that had to do with music because when I have my own kennel, they will all have music related names since that is my other passion.  Cash's name fits with Rose's because we plan on him doing really well in the ring and I wanted his name to have some link to Rose's registered name.  I named two others from my mentor's two litters this year.  Sandplum Ridge Everest because I kept seeing him climb all the time.  Sandplum Ridge Panda because when she was just a couple of days old and we were doing tails she looked like a tiny panda. 

In the beginning, I had a name long before the dog.  I have used books ("Morgan" Le Fay, witch in Once and Future King, dobe bitch; then we started using our last name in the dogs name (before we got smart and went to responsible breeders).  Rabel's Grand "Marshall" for the Marshall football team (dobe dog);  Rabel's Black "Baylor" for when Baylor played in the Sugar Bowl (gsd dog) ; then we went the responsible breeder route and kennel names were added.  Dessine de faire l'affaire (  "Dessie" "d" litter translation designed to answer the purpose terv dog);  Roulets "Ecko" Unlimited (designer litter, mal bitch) and TriSorts Bounder (came with the name and already had points no changing it)  "Nora" (aka Bounder) was named for her behavior as a puppy.   With the exception of Nora, all the dog's call names are in their registered names

For the dogs who actually show and I can remember their names:
 
Harry came with a name- Old River's Harold's Angel Sings- play on his name and a tribute to the breeder's friend who passed the day the puppies were born.  It's kind of sweet I suppose, but everyone thinks I named Harry after Harry Potter.
 
Beau is Ch Old River's Over the Rain Beau- another play on the name.  Kind of cute if you ask me. 

Caleb is named after my husband's 4th great grandfather, Caleb Washburn.  I was seriously thinking of naming him ".....Caleb Washburn", but hubby thought that was going too far.  He looked around some, and came up with Takoda.  Another discussion came up when I was filling out his papers- the breeder didn't require that we use her kennel name.  I bounced a couple of options off my husband that he didn't like, then came up with KSMs (his & my intials).  We were all set to go with that, but our son suggested Our Little.  We liked the idea of our son being involved with naming Caleb, so he's now "Our Little Caleb Takoda".
