    Another "Quess that Breed" Thread!

This poor thing was dumped at my parent's farm.  I instantly fell in love with him and took him home.  He is very sweet and an extremely fast learner.  I got him last Saturday.  He was vet checked, neutered and got his first set of shots on Tuesday.  He is adjusting well but is still waiting on full run of the yard until we can get the invisible fence installed and get him trained  -- the cold weather and snow is keeping us from doing that.

My initial guess was Lab/Boxer.  My vet said definitely Pit Bull and something else.  What do you guys think?  He's about 9 months old.

Oh my gosh, what a sweet face!  I would say maybe PitBull/Lab because in a few of those pictures his fur looks longer than the typical Pit...more Lab-length.  His eyes look more like Lab as well...and his overall expression.  The shape of his head made me think Rottie for a sec, but I'm not so sure.  Whatever the heck he is, he's SO cute!!

My guess would be lab/pit. I don't see much boxer in his build and that face looks very much pit but with mixes you really never know.

Don't let the pit bull part scare you, they have been given some bad stereotypes lately but they are really loving, wonderful family dogs. There are other pitti owners on this forum as well that would agree.[;)] He is such a cutie, so great that you took him in.[:D]

Another reason I say he#%92s part pitti, other than his look, is because it#%92s more likely that he is. If you ever go to the shelter more than half of the dogs there are pits, most never make it out. So statically that#%92s what he's more likely to be.

    Beautiful puppy!

I can definitely see a lot of lab in him and I'm guessing he's also part pit.

My guess would be lab x pit- brindle and red (fawn = A^y yellow, no?) are both, IIRC, dominant, and boxers dno't come in black.

Cute, cute, cute! He has almost a cartoonishly cute face. I agree w/ Lab/Pit.

    Me, too - Lab/Pit

I have a feeling these folks would disagree. Also, my parents bred boxers when I was really young (under 3), and I've definitely seen black boxer puppy pictures. And they would've had to have come from brindle to brindle or brindle to fawn. I'll dig out the pics if you want to see.

Thank you for all of the replies.  I'm sure I'll never know 100% for sure what mix he is but I'm alright with that.  He does have a few white hairs on his chest but not enough to really have a white patch.  His face resembles a lab quite a bit until something gets his attention and he pins his ears back and then he looks more like a boxer/pit bull.

All I know is that he thinks he's a lap dog -- all 40+ lbs of him!  He climbed into my lap last night and fell asleep.  I held him as long as I could but had to make him get down after a little while b/c he's pretty heavy!!  He also doesn't seem too concerned with the cats (I have three).  He just looks at them and wags his tail.  My one cat has swatted him in the face a few times and he just walks away.  Other than some typical puppy stuff, he's been an angel.

    Thanks again for the replies!

Pit/lab guess from me as well. Sounds like he is one very lucky dog. Kudos to you for rescuing him :)

Well, the breed standard says they don't, and the boxer breed club says no, so... yeah, I'd say they don't. They DO come in very, very heavily marked brindle, which appears black. (We have the same thing in Cardis, btw- it's how you get 'black and white' cardigans as the bicolor pattern doesn't appear in Cardis.)

I'm not sure that a BYB touting a 'rare' color is the best example of breed history or information, either. Just a LITTLE bias. And none of their dogs appear in the OFA database.

Oh, so cute!  He looks a lot like our "little girl" who we figure to be a lab/pit mix.  She was a rescue who was abandoned on a rooftop in Manhattan.  She's topped out at 46 pounds, and is all lap dog.  She loves to snuggle up on the couch or in bed.

    MartiniQueen,
Wow what a resemblence!  They really do look very similar.  It would be nice if he didn't get much bigger, especially if he plans on sitting in my lap!  How anyone can abandon animals like that is beyond me.  Your "little girl" is a cutie.  I like the picture of her laying in the grass!

Your dog looks exactly like a Pit Bull/Labrador mix I used to own.
I'd say that's what he is, as others have said.

As for black Boxers, no they do not exist. The "black" Boxers appear to be black, but are actually reversed brindle, which if anything, in the sun, looks more like dark chocolate brown.
People play off the idea of rare superiority though, and pawn them off as black.

Aww, so cute!  I agree with lab/pit.  And I had to stop in and welcome the little fella, cause my boy's an Ace too!  [:)]
