Help! What kind of Shepherd do I have???

We got our beautiful dog when she was 6 weeks old, she is now 7 months.  Her mother and father look like regular German Shepherds, however Ophie and one of her brother came out different.  With a really pretty blonde coat.  We thought her parents were full German however looking at Ophie it looks like there is something else there.  We were wondering if anyone could tell us what else she may be. Here is a picture, thanks for the help..
    Eric!

She looks like a Terv...Belgian Terveuren (sp)....not a GSD at all to me...but who knows?

How big is she? If she is larger then a normal German Shep, then I would venture to guess Shiloh Shep. Although they are rare and incredibly expensive.

    Regardless, she is absolutely beautiful.

She looks like a GSD to me, just a really light sable. I've seen a few sables that light, although it's not common at all. It *does* seem to be more common in the plush (long) coats than the standard coats. She's very cute!

If she is essentially square  (the same distance from the withers to the floor as the distance from the point of the shoulder in the forechest to the point of the hip in the rear) rather than rectangular about an 8 to 10 ratio height to length, she could be belgian shepherd mix.  If you are sure  of the parentage,,,, then she is just one of those unusual genetic mixes that comes up.  The majority of the shepherds from Europe shared the gene pool back in the 1800's.

I don't see 100% German Shepherd, but that's just my opinion.

I say Belgian something.  Looks alot like a Belgian Terveuren or Mallinois.  Very pretty, though.  I disagree with full German Shepard, unless she is a funny oddball one.  Just MO.

To me, her face looks more like a lighter weight gsd than a belgian, but I certainly see similarities with a terv.  You have to remember how much GSD type varies, though.  There are plenty of gsds not near standard out there.

the same variation in type is present in belgians as well;  I would bet a mix or very poorly bred (with respect to maintaining "type")

If you saw both parents and they were regular Shepherds, then that's what you have. There is a recessive gene for long coats in the breed, so occasionally it pops up. Both parents must be carriers for the long coat. In Shepherds they call it a plush coat.

Quite often the color of the undercoat is different from the color of the heavier guard hairs. It's very possible that at this age her guard hairs have not come in. They are longer and take longer to show. Also, undercoat and guard hairs can be shed and grow back in at different times. As her adult coat comes in you may see her darken up in color.

While it isn't desirable (or allowed in the show ring) a more cream like coloring can pop up in german shepherds

I'm no expert, but that's not a shetland sheepdog.  Glad I could help!

Both of Sheba's parents looked "normal" too, but she is pure white.  Sometimes that recessive gene just pops up.  I believe for whites the chance is one in 200.  As to the longer coat, well sometimes that happens as well if there is a history of it in the family tree.  The best thing you could do to really find out is to order her pedigree from the AKC and see what lurks in her family tree.

Glenda, look at the dogs ears though, they are oddly shaped.
