Boxer - new to forum; quick question - clothing

    Hi All -
I'm new to this site and am looking for a recommendation.  We have an 18 month old boxer who is approximately 21" length and 28" girth.  We keep running into problems finding him a winter coat, the last one I bought was too big and the one before that he outgrew in 2 weeks.  Before I buy another, I'd like to know if anyone has found a brand that works with the boxer.  He doesn't like the ones that require his legs to go through, but the "blanket style" that velcros at the neck and around the stomach.

Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Keri

Where do you live?  I live in the UK, and while it's never been Artic conditions, whenever we took the boxers out - even in snow, they didn't mind at all.  Dogs are quite well equipped for most weather, and while boxers are short haired, they seem fine even in what us people think is bitterly cold weather.

Saying that, once when we took Bonnie out into the snow she ended up losing a nipple somehow.

I live in Boston, MA and our dog loves the outdoors, but in the winter he shivers and gets cold easily.  So far this winter hasn't been a problem (knock on wood) because it hasn't gotten too cold, but I'm sure it will begin to get that way.  We know he gets cold which is why I'm trying to find the winter jacket.  Not for everyday, but the especially colder weather.
    Thanks!

It is difficult sometimes to find clothing that fits larger breeds with a deeper chest.  I have a hard time finding stuff for my greyhounds and usually have to order from someone who specializes in clothing for that breed.  I hate ordering online though and would rather try it on them in a store to assure the fit is good rather than having to ship it back if it doesn't fit right.  Petsmart seems to have a better selection for larger breeds with a deeper chest and I have gotten a few things that fit my greyhounds from there so that might be one suggestion.

Also, Chewbecca got her pit a coat from Fido Fleece and it looks like some of those might fit a more boxer type of frame.

Look for the second post where I provide links. The first link in my second post has some great coats that should fit a boxer style body very well. My boy is a boxer mix, and the horse style blanket fits him well.

I've used my old hoodies for the deeper chested dogs.  If you've got old sweaters that you'd be okay with sewing up to fit him, it's a cheap alternative to searching for doggie sweaters.

I'm almost ashamed to say this, but I have been shopping in the childrens section for my dog's clothes.  Since your dog doesn't like having his legs involved in the coat, you could always sew some coats for him.  (you know they will fit)

Thank you all for the recommendations!  We found Lands End to have a size that will fit him and are giving it a shot. The last resort would be me having to sew....not really that good at it.  My mom is but I have to bribe her to hem my pants, so one can only imagine what I'd have to do to get her to sew her grandpuppy a coat...that is always an option for next year!

    Thanks again!

If you've got a sewing machine altering the clothes to fit or modifying them to be the velcro type shouldn't be that hard.  I'm not a great person to try to explain it but basically you would just have to remove the sleeves cut it down the center and adjust the cut til you have enough over lap for the velcro to stick together easily plus about a quarter to half inch to create a finished edge.

If you're hand sewing... well I'd work on those bribes.

Hey we got Rocky a Chilly dog fleece mad by a woman who volunteers for boxer buddies. We actually measured his chest and height and sent it in and his chilly dog fits great. I will send you a picture of Rocky in it and also the website. We bought him a Patriots fleece, it is so comfy he sleeps in it sometimes.

If it isn't too far to drive, this little store just over the border in Maine might be able to help you out.  They deal with a lady who makes the fleece coats. Perhaps you could get one made to order.

I have a smaller boxer and the old navy brand jackets seem to be just what you're looking for.  Maya is a medium and the large is pretty good for a bigger dog.
