Mixed with what?

    Mixed with what?

This is Krystal, she is supposedly an Aussie mix but the shelter was very vague about what she is mixed with.  She does have a tail but that could mean it just wasn't docked, some Aussies are born with tails.  They said her dad was the Aussie, and mom was black and tan, medium sized, with long fur.  Well, that could describe an Aussie too!  But they only saw her mom briefly as the owners dropped off this beautiful litter of 5 pups, who all looked like Aussies to me!  So I'm just curious as to what you all think she could be mixed with?

Also, these pics are only a week old and suddenly her ears seem to be closer together and stand on top of her head, rather than more to the sides when pricked.  They are still tipped though.

She could be Aussie mixed with Heeler or Border Collie. Whatever Krystal is mixed with, she is the cutest puppy ever!! What an adorable puppy!!

Yes, we thought she was the "prettiest" of the litter.  It also turns out she was the Alpha of the litter, she's definitely got to be the BOSS.

I was also thinking BC, because of her two black & white litter mates.  You don't see b&w's in Aussies that much.

She's LUCKY she's so cute, I always tell her!

Depends on where you are- I see a LOT of black bi aussies around here!

Blue merle is technically black also, so if mom was solid black with tan points and dad was blue merle the pups could easily be solid black bi. I really don't see anything but Aussie in there.

    I waas thinking Aussie/Catahoula/Blue Heeler

I was thinking all Aussie, too.  Cute puppies, but the "chosen" one is stunning (I'm partial to the merles, especially blue ones).

I see  nothing but Aussie, but that could potentially change as she grows up.  It'll be easier to tell when she's full grown.  She is just way way way too cute [:D]

Do Aussies have big paws like that? Is it just the picture or does she have a deep chest?
    • Gold Top Dog
Yup. You should have seen my baby Ted when he was little - what a chunk. And from the paws you would have thought our Rocky pup would have grown to be 100 pounds. Nope, he just has big paddle paws - very common in working types.

brookcove-wow that's amazing. I guess there's a big different in body shape for BCs,Aussies with Collies. I'm use to the small chest and average paws.

Yes, her paws are just big, actually the fronts are bigger in proportion to the backs.  Her chest is not deep, and she only weighs 13 lbs at 12 weeks old.  We think she'll get to around 40lbs and be on the smaller side of Aussie average weight.

Now, my Aussie/BC mix Tucker had huge paws too, but he's gotten huge also!  He's already 50lbs and is only 7 months old.  Although I don't think he's got much more height to go, but I think he'll fill out more, and hopefully his chest will widen a bit to straighten out his front legs.  Right now his front paws deviate outwards at the wrist and I'm thinking if the chest widens then his upper arms will twist in, and the front paws will turn in also.  (I'm thinking horse conformation, because I know young horses go through that too!)  Or maybe he's just got a front leg deviation and they will always be that way.  Doesn't matter, it certainly doesn't hinder him and we love him anyways!  I've got to get him in flyball, he is so ball-driven it isn't even funny!  Last night we were all busy and couldn't throw the ball for him--I was giving my daughter a bath.  He finally just dropped the ball into the bathtub to get my attention!  I took it out and threw it down the hall for him, and of course he came back and dropped it back in the tub.  Well, even after my daughter was out of the tub and we left the bathroom, he still kept dropping it in the tub thinking that's how he'd get one of us to throw it!!  He can catch that ball any direction we throw it, even if we throw it up behind him he'll jump and twist in the air and manage to catch it.

My friend adopted a pup similar to yours thinking it was Aussie, and she sure looked it.  When she got older, she looked more like a Collie mix.  Show us some more shots as she gets older.
