Okay...was he lying about the breeds?

to young to tell,  all the breeds mentioned have very similar visual appearances as puppies.  watch as the puppy grows and the question may become easier to answer.

You'll have to excuse the quality of this picture.  This was a few years ago before my digital days.  But, this is a bull mastiff and he was about maybe four months or a little older here.

You can see he's got the beauty mark, the coloring, also the darker coloring next to the eyes, the ears are similar.

I agree you'll probably be able to tell as he ages.

Same coloring, but the little puppy's head shape is different. I think mrv is right, we'll probably have to wait until he's older to see what he's going to look like.

LOTS of dogs have "beauty marks" and "dark masks", not Just Mastiffs and Shepherds.

And here's a picture I found of what looks like a Bullmastiff/Pit mix:

You can register your AMSTAFF...as an APBT with UKC. They do not have a breed called AMSTAFF nor do they accept them (as Amstaff's) in any way for any competition, tho I suppose you could go the ambor registry route to show them as a PB mix if you wanted to do performance events.

Once you register your Amstaff with them...it is an APBT...at all events including conformation.

This is why Jaime has said she does not show UKC...because to do, so her dogs would have to give up being what they are...Amstaff's. I applaud her unwillingness to do so, and I agree they should have a separate breed listing and stud book, etc with UKC.

    On another note,
The pup is very cute...the coming weeks will suggest what he is...but it's impossible to know for sure. A bitch staked out in the yard can be serviced by any number of dogs and the true sire will likely not be a sure thing because of that...this owner doesn't seem one overly concerned with parentage.

Kaela, the pics of that puppy you posted could BE Sgt. Butter. They look like him *exactly.*

I need to take new pictures of him. Now that he's no longer wormy, dehydrated, and malnourished, his color is darkening a little, his coat is gettng softer, and he's starting to get some wrinkles. He looks more and more like a Bullmastiff pup every day.

But, I agree that it's just waiting game. Right now I'm thinking his mother is probably a pit, who mated with some random dog, who happened to be a mastiff. So, right now, my guess is Pit X Bullmastiff. But eh, I'll probably never know for sure.
