My Mixed Up Girls--What ARE they?

    This is Sophie.

She's about six months old in this photo. We adopted her from the Humane Society, where she was listed as a hound mix. We're pretty sure there's lab in there, and our mailman thinks she may have some PitBull as well. She weighed about 45 lbs in these photos. She's now eight months old and weighs around 60-65 lbs. So, what do you think she might have mixed in there?

Here she is with her "sister," Nikki:

    And, one more

O.k. I can't help myself. I have to show off Nikki, as well. She also came from the Humane Society. She's about three years old now and was listed as a Shiba-Inu/Husky mix. She's a sweetheart.

    both beautiful dogs.

i see some lab in sophie. i dont really see any pit bull. maybe some form of mastiff. she has beautiful brindle markings though.

i see the husky in nikki, but not sure what else. maybe a little lab too, but not sure.

I agree with the Shiba/Husky.  In fact, I thought that before I read your description.  I really see husky in the first picture, then in the first alone picture, I really see shiba.

I definitely agree with the Husky/Shiba X for Nikki - I also thought that before I read the description.  As for Sophie...I don't see any pit in her...maybe Lab, but not a lot, I don't think it's very prominent if it's there.  I think she looks like some kind of hound mix - maybe Plott?  I know Plotts are known for their brindle coloring.  Not sure what other hounds, if any, carry the brindling.  I suppose she could have pit way back in there to provide the brindle, but I'm not sure.  Greyhounds and mastiffs and danes also carry the brindle, but she doesn't resemble those at all really.

I was going to suggest Plott hound also for Sophie.  I definitely think she's some kind of hound mix, and I personally don't see the pit.  Your mailman may have just thought that because of the brindle coloring.

Cute dogs... I see a lot of Lab in Sophie, but no pit bull... the brindle must come from somewhere else though I'm not sure where.

Nikki, definitely Husky with or without some Shiba Inu.

Sophie, definitely Lab and the coat brindling of possibly Rhodesian or some hound breed that has brindled coats. Especially with her being 65 pounds at 8 months.

As far as I know, the only hounds that have brindle coats are plott hounds and greyhounds. I definately see plott hound in Sophie, mixed maybe with lab. What's her personality like? She sure looks like a total sweetheart!

Sophie is a big lovable goofy baby. She just turned eight months old. She usually curls up on the sofa next to me with her head in my lap. She loves belly rubs and having her ears scratched. She's pretty laid back, not overly energetic by any stretch of the imagination. Not at all high strung. She was pretty easy to train. Actually, I have these boards to thank for that. Whenever I got discouraged, I'd just come here and learn that we were really doing fine. It took a while, but I think she's finally got it. We haven't had an accident for about three weeks. She loves to go on walks. She adores going to the "puppy park" and has made friends with a couple of regulars. She's pretty fond of the Great Dane who is our backyard neighbor.

She and Nikki get along very well. Nikki actually took very good care of Sophie when she was younger and helped a lot with training her. They do play together very well. Sometimes, I think they're too rough when they're outside and will stop them. They'll stop and look at me as if to say, "What is your problem? We're just having some fun!" No rough housing is allowed inside, and they both respect that--most of the time. A reminder is occasionally required.

Recently, Nikki's been establishing her place as top dog between the two of them. Sophie believes her for the most part and hasn't argued too much. So, I'm hoping we won't have many problems in that aspect.

Basically, they're both great dogs. Obviously, I could go on and on and on about my girls. I think we hit the ;puppy lottery with these two. I never thought I was a dog person, but I love these two almost as much as my kids!

    how about a lab/dane mix?
