Just for fun: Bloodhound + ?

Just because I personally find breed guessing games kind of fun, I thought I'd get some opinions on Conrad. I'm certain that he's at least half bloodhound. The other part is a bit more of a mystery. His natural drives are all bloodhound, so I can't go on those (he's nose-oriented to an extreme, and is also highly pack-driven, but he doesn't retrieve, herd, or point). He weighs 95 lbs. and has a double coat.

Here's a nice side shot of Conrad followed by a picture of a bloodhound with similar coat patterns (becuase people tend to peg him as GSD mix because of the black saddle pattern of his coat, but bloodhounds have the same pattern).

Have fun! I'm really interested to hear what all our breed ID experts have to say!

If I had to guess I'd say the most likely would be Lab, as cliche as it is.  It's got to be some breed that has small ears like that and a blocky face and I'd say a Lab fits the bill, though more likely than not he's a Heinz 57 of some dogs with Lab-like looks.  I know a lot of strays tend to look similar to Labs.  His face looks almost Ridgeback-ey, but I'd think a Lab/Bloodhound could produce that look as well.  What makes you think he's a Bloodhound X?  I'm not doubting you because I agree, the body is very similar in proportion/coloring/everything, but I was just wondering if you actually knew one of the parents.

Nope, he's a pound pup and I didn't know either of his parents or where he came from other than somewhere in southern Maryland. In fact, at the pound they had him listed as GSD x shar pei! I get the GSD part, but shar pei?  Anyway, it took me a while to realize that he looks way more bloodhound than GSD and he also acts like a bloodhound and not at all like a GSD.

I can see lab. We've also had guesses of ridgeback, which I like to think because I love ridgebacks, but what are the chances, in a rural backwater, of a bloodhound and ridgeback getting together and having an oops litter? I think the reality is either some kind of working farm-typed dog or a hunting dog because those are pretty much the only kinds of dogs that there are down there. Labs are, in fact, extremely common down there, it being a rural, maritime area where water fowl hunting is a pretty big deal.

Something about the expression on his face says Lab to me.  And, believe it or not, I do see GSD- not because of his coat pattern, but his coat texture.  It looks more GSD to me than Bloodhound.

His face looks totally lab to me.  What a cutie! [:D]

Ridgeback X GSD....or most likely Lab x GSD.

I don't see any Bloodhound...but I've never considered them a common breed in my area. Bloodhounds just tend to be a bit mroe prepotent for wrinkle, ear length, skull shape, eye droop, and flews than I see in your boy.

Honestly, if I weren't told Bloodhound, I'd say GSD x Ridgeback.  The forehead wrinkles definitely remind me of a ridgeback, as does the face shape.

I'd guess there are more than two breeds in the mix. Particularly if he's part bloodhound, those short ears have to come from somewhere and I'm not sure Lab explains them, although I do see yellow Lab in his face and body.
