I always believed that when I was an adult and got to pick out my first dog she would be brown and white with floppy ears.
I didn't know until after I fell in love with Abbi that she was a GSP, probably a good thing-I don't think I would have intentionally picked out a dog with her prey drive, energy level, tendency to chase after everything.  Of course, now I am constantly on Petfinder looking at other GSP, not even close to being ready for a second yet though.

I have one!!Well shes a mix but her mom was a german shorthair pointer and she acts very much like one. We have never had a Pointer and they are great dogs, we have only had her for 4 months but so far so is extreamly hyper but LOVES all dogs and people. I will admit getting Raja I had no idea their intense prey drive. Its amazing she could be outside looking for squirels all day long. Also, since I am new to the breed is it normal for them to be so hyper? She is almost 4 years old and I have to walk her twice and day and spend hours playing with her and in an hour she is already jumping around and restless.

    Hi Raja,

She is beautiful and definitely looks like a GSP in the face! YOu know, I am new to the breed also, but from what I understand they are highly intelligent with a huge prey drive and are VERY high energy. I think that having to do the 2 walks and all that play time is normal. Beau, my GSP is 10 wks old so he is still sleeping alot...but I know that we are going to have to exercise the hell out of him so he doesnt get restless as he starts getting bigger and out of the puppy sleepy stage. He plays with my two little terriers all night when I get home from work. And at lunch time, and for an hour + in the morning. He cant go for long walks yet as he hasnt had all of his shots. But between all of them, there is enough energy to power the house! LOL. They are all high energy. IT helps though that they can play and wear each other out.

It is normal for them to have a lot of energy.  You need to give them both mental and phyiscal stimulation.  I good game I play with Hawk is that I will hide a piece of meat somewhere in the house or maybe several places.  Then I tell him to find it. That keeps him busy for a good while and after all that thinking and sniffing hetakes a nap.   I bulit up this game from a very easy place to find the treat to much more difficult.  The most important thing to remeber for all dogs is that a tried dog is a good dog[:)]

Butterfly and Rowdyval you both have beautiful dogs, Rowdyval how old is your pointer? And thank you for your replies, I figuered it was normal how hyper she was but was beginning to think maybe she had something wrong with her. She was also tried to a chain for the first 3 years of her life before I got her, so I am guessing that never had the chance to run around and play with other dogs. She is going to start training soon, they had a waiting list so she begins in Jan. And yes she could play with our other dogs ALL day and night long, she adores them! And the hide and seek game sounds like a great game, I will try that with her tonight!

Hawk is a little over 2 yrs right now.  He was quite a handful as a pup always tring to see what he could get away with.  Now he is in his teenager yr so he thinks he knows it all.  Still he is a good dog and a joy to have around.  I wish you the best with Raja.  Here is a pic of him as a puppy and one after a hunt.
