Okay, take your best guess...

    Okay, take your best guess...

Here's a picture of my dog.  I'm curious what breeds everyone might see in her.  I'm pretty sure she at least has German Shephard, but other than that I'm stumped.  She may just be a combination of things, who knows.[:)]  She's about 56 lbs, give or take a couple, and has blue spots on her tongue, which may or may not mean anything.  She can be very submissive and fearful, and will only let a few certain people touch her.  I think some of her issues may possibly come from a poorly bred Shephard (or Shephard mix) father.  I think these traits are inherited, because many of her litter mates exhibit the same behavior.  I have a pic of her mom also, which is the tan dog pictured below (and that's also my chi in the pic[;)]).  Anyway, let me know what you all think, I'm just curious.[8D]  Here's hoping I can figure out how to post a picture...

Haha, I guess I can't.  Anyone wanna help me out here?

There are two different ways to post pics, you can either upload directly from your computer... check the "embed picture in post" box and then hit "click here to upload." Make sure the pic is small enough to meet requirements. The other way is to use a webpage that hosts photos, then hit the little image icon and enter the address of the photo you want to post.

    Thanks!

    And a couple more...

The last one is the black dog's mom.  Not sure what she is either.[8|]

Hmm.. I think the mother of your dog could be collie or sheltie x lab.  Judging by the chihuahua in the pic, I'm going to guess she's smaller so I'd say sheltie/lab.  Then I think your dog could be sheltie/lab/german shepherd.  The face and expression in the first picture reminds me a lot of my shelties.  Plus the ears tip over too.  That's my guess, but whatever they are they're really cute!

    Pretty dog!

Border collie/German Shepherd? I definitely see the shepherd.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, border collie could be in place of the sheltie too, but I definitely see a herding breed in there such as a collie, sheltie, or bc.

You know, I hadn't ever really considered Sheltie or Collie, or Border Collie for that matter.  I thought of Australian Cattle Dog or possibly Kelpie, but wasn't really sure about either of those either.  I know they both look overweight (esp. the mom, because she IS), but my dog has a sort of stocky build, so even though she might look a bit thick in the pictures, she's actually not as much as she appears.  Actually I think she just has short legs, lol.  She probably could still lose a couple pounds I think.  She has a lot of loose skin also, around her neck.  Does anyone think she might have a bit of Chow in her?

Well, Shelties are very prone to being overweight!  You can just ask my girl.  [:)]

If I just saw your dog I'd say GSD/BC. But the mom appears to be part yellow Lab. It's the ears and face and sort of lean look that suggest Border Collie to me in your dog... GSD seems most obvious in the hindquarters.

Thanks everyone!  I think the suggestions could definitely be possible.  I would buy that the mom has yellow lab and possibly sheltie.  The mom is even smaller than my dog, so I doubt it would be collie.  And I do definitely think my dog has a herding breed in her, I've just never been able to decide what.  She lowers her head a lot, like in that last picture, and she also seems to stare sometimes, usually at my chihuahua, hehe.  Her and her mom also gain weight very easily.  And I remember some of her littermates had longer fur, although I never saw any of them all grown up.  And maybe her blue tongue/gums comes from the Shephard.

Well anyway, I love her whatever she is!

You know border collies come in "blond". Mom could be a chubby bc or bc mix, from that photo, it's hard to say.
    • Gold Top Dog
Really?  I never knew they could come in blond.  And I just recently learned they could come in liver and smooth coat (from this board)...just shows how much I know, lol.

I guess they call it tan, but here's a link. This site is really cool if anyone is interested in learning about border collies.

I don't mean to take this topic OT here but thak you so much for posting that link!  There is a section of split-faced BCs.  The next time someone tells me my Gizzy is not a BC because of her split face and smooth coat I'll show them this link!
