What's in the mix?

I'd guess BC x hound, but mostly BC....

I have seen in books many europe hunting breeds that look like him.Anyway...he's a very wise and affectionate dog and very agile(you should see him jump over a bush...just like a deer!very fun to watch) Sorry for my bad english...Im from Quebec,Canada. and sorry for the picture..it's the only good one i have rigth now....he's with his buddy hutch, the neighbours lab.

OK, sorry, yesterday was just awful with adjusting to the new meds and I just realized hubby took off with the camera bag when he drove my car in this morning. [8D] Along with the Christmas decorations I wanted to put up tonight, wah! Men, you can't live with 'em, you can't shoot 'em. . .[;)]

I promise I'll post that pic tonight - I figured you'd want to see it, Houndlove!

Voss, your dog is gorgeous! I don't know about beagle lab, did they know for sure? Maybe you've got some border collie in him, too.
    • Gold Top Dog

    *taps foot* Oh, Becca!!

I would have never guessed pit bull if it weren't for that last picture of him walking towards the camera...I'd say border collie and some kind of bully breed and probably a few more things thrown in there.
    • Bronze
    Some more shots

    Very handsome, Voss!

I'm sorry, did you say you know for sure he's a beagle/lab, or was that a guess?
    • Bronze
No im not sure about the beagle/labrador mix....this is what i was told from the lady that had the dog when he was a young puppy.

Oops, sorry, haven't been at the computer much the last few days.

Here's Rip. His daddy is a cattle working Border collie from very good lines, and his mama is a National Coon Night Hunt Champion (I think that's what they called her) Walker coonhound. The funny thing is that he's HUGE, much bigger than his granddaddy the Walker on one side, and of course much bigger than any of his Border collie relatives. But his daddy is a gigantic Border collie (his name is "Hoss", that tells you something).

Rip is sweet and silly and smart - he really got almost all the best of the mix. He hunts AND herds. He is not wide open, but is extremely athletic and very fast - he'd make a HECK of an agility dog.

Ever seen a 65 pound pup do the Macarena? This is adorable - he gets up and waves his paws in the air above his head, in front, etc - I can't believe how long he can just stand there. I could never get a pic of him with his paws right over his head:

He's looking for a home - I'm going to post him in the rescue section but if anyone who loves hounds would be interested in a dog with a ton of potential, we can probably get him most anywhere in the country, for the right home.

WOW!!!! That was worth the wait! If I didn't already have a full house, I would be in my car right now driving to North Carolina!

That balancing on two legs thing is the coonhound in him. Because of their treeing behavior, they spend a lot of time on two legs and their body structure makes it very easy for them to stay that way. We're currently teaching Marlowe to "stand" on command and he's just amazing at it! He stands and balances, waves his paws around, walks around on two legs....if I were a better trainer I could shape that into something really extraordinary. As it is, it's just cute and impressive.

That's just a fantastic looking dog. Have you been in touch with coonhound rescue? Coonies are often mixed because of the oops litter potential of working country dogs and I've seen several mixed coonies up for rescue on their websites. I can also talk him up on the Coonhound Fanciers yahoo group I'm on. There are a lot of people on there who do obedience and agility with their coonhounds and I bet one of them would love to work with the potential that this guy has.
