Schnauzer question

    Schnauzer question

My husband and I bought what we thought was a mini Schnzauer, but at just about 4 months old, he's already just over 13 pounds. We're assuming that he is not, in fact, a mini Schnauzer, but a standard, however we are not sure. Does anyone know where I can find a size chart for a standard, or for a mini. It doesn't really matter, he's too cute not to keep, we'd just like to know. Thanks

There are also variences within each size.  Those sizes are for the show breed standard.  Just because the dog is bigger than the ideal miniture, doesn't mean hes not a miniture, it just means he does not meet the standard.  The Miniture, Standard, and Giant are three separate breeds.  You can't buy a miniture and since it gets oversize, call it a standard.  Did you see the parents?  My friend has a Shih Tzu who weighs 18 pounds, which is more than they call for in the standard.  He is definitely all Shih Tzu, but not from show quality dogs.

That's very true Colleen , some just don't meet that ideal height. Some are below average & some are above average. I know few owners that their miniature schnauzers are like 15 inches that's could be close to a Standard Schnauzer, but it's still a Miniature Schnauzer! :-)

Howdy all.  My little guy Merlin is definately a minature schnauzer - he is about 14inches.  But when I compare him to other minis he seems to be considerably heavier - not chubby, just really very stocky in the upper body.  He makes some of the dainty little guys and girls look quite small!

    hello,[:)]
I am intressted in schnauzer, so I have heard, that temperament of these dogs depends on the color of the coat. It is true?

Whoever told you that needs to be smacked upside the head, as that is completely wrong!  Coat color NEVER has anything to do with temperament (though sometimes it has something to do with health).

I am talking about zwergschnaucer. One of breeder have told me, that schaucer with coat black and silver are more angry with another dogs than black or white color dogs.
Sorry for mistakes, I am from Lithuania, so English is my foreign language [:)]

That is COMPLETELY untrue! Coat color only sometimes determines one thing in the dog and that is health. Dogs with white coats tend to have more of a chance of being blind/ death. (I'm pretty sure) In any case we have a black and gray schnauzer, he has the sweetest temperment ever.[:D]

My little pepper and salt has the most delightful personality.  First dog for me so I am considering myself very lucky.  Still working on the training.  He is so smart he is happy to ignore me when he knows I have no treats in my pocket!
