    New Here.

Hi, my name is Jerrod and in a few weeks I get to take home my new pup!!! I can't wait. My first Akita passed about a year ago and it devastaed me. The two of  us were inseperable. I started looking for a new pup 3 or 4 months ago and found a male I couldn't pass up. Anyway I just wanted see if anyone out there has one and has some training tips. I forgot to mention that I was paralized  while serving over seas but  I'm sure I can handle challenge.

Thanks and sory for the speling mistaksAngry.

Jerrod- Welcome to i-dog...and congrats on your new pup!! Very exciting indeed! [:D]

If you don't get a lot of responce in this thread, try posting under the training section. There are lots of good suggestions that are sure to come your way. We have a lot of wonderful trainers on this forum.[:D]

Also, it is good that you noted you have some paralysis because this will help others guide you on how to adapt the training.   I am sorry to hear of your injury [&o], but I know this will make you no less of a fantastic dog owner. [;)]

I am assuming that since you mentioned you are paralyzed that you have an SCI then?? (or maybe a traumatic brain injury?)   If this is so, then if you feel comfortable doing so you may want to let others know what deficits you have (like a quad or a para...hand function....).  I work with people with Spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries so I understand the challanges, but others may not.  The folks I work with are truly individuals who can do anything that they set their mind to, so training a dog will be a peice of cake! [;)]

good luck to you with your new pup!

Welcome to dog.com!  Unfortunatly, I do not know too much about Akitas, but if you get that dog you have your eye on, I hope everything goes well.
