Guesses Welcome

    Guesses Welcome

My boyfriend's family has had this dog (Mongo) since he was a puppy (about 3 or 4 years, I think) & we've really been wondering what it could be. He's about 60 lbs, medium height. They also had his sister/littermate who has since disappeared. She was white. I apologize for the size of this picture, but I'm a walking technical difficulty. We would appreciate any guesses y'all might have!  :-)

Like I said, a walking technical difficulty...

I'm going to give it a wild guess and say Lab/GSD maybe a little pitt in there. If his sis was white I'm thinking more yellow lab in there.

    Cute dog![;)]

    How about Lab/Chow?

Shepherd for sure and maybe Golden except he would be furrier.  Must be some shorter hair breed in him.  He looks so sweet!

I don't know if it helps any to mention it, but Mongo is very "independent," territorial, has a very strong prey drive (goes hunting at night--he's a farm dog, so he's not in a fence), & really isn't much of a petting dog. He's a obsessive-compulsive fetcher, though. He'd much rather you throw something for him to chase than for you to touch him at all. Not sure if that's a sign of some retriever in him, or just a doggy mental disorder.  :-)

Between the pic and his temperament, he sounds like a Chow/Lab.  He looks really sweet!

    I vote chow/lab...

You know, I think I'm going to go a little different way with this.  What about Lab/Rottweiler mix?  To me the head & eyes look a lot like a rottweiler.

Looking for a short haired breed??? and that head shape and the eye set-how about a Rhodesian ridgeback-it would also account for the prey drive and aloofness

The eyes and brows def. look rottweiler to me. And some sort of retriever.

I totally agree on the rott eyes! The head shape is just screaming rott, and the body, I am saying, Lab! I don't see any chow in him, but, I have a question for you. Is the color of your pups tounge have any large blue or black spots? It's a promentant gene in chows.

No, his tongue is all pink. It sure would make it easier to tell if he had a black tongue...or a rottwieler-typical coloring....or anything remotely distictive. The poor compulsive mutt, hehe  :-)  I appreciate all the guesses!!!

Is the coat sort of finely textured and soft? I'm thinking with that fawn color, possibly part Belgian Malinois which would also be a fit size-wise, and something with floppy ears such as the lab or rottie. This is Wolfgang who we think is Belgian Malinois/Akita. He's in the 80 lb range,
