Hi, I'm new to the board. I have a 2 1/2 year old coonhound who has of late been a city dog. (She was originally from WV but spent most of her youth in shelters.) In the city she was a dear--very calm, sweet and quiet. Only rarely did she howl (mostly at other dogs in the park as a "how do you do"
;) and bayed only in the company of rabbits when out of the city. I have since moved to a rural locale--rabbits, wood chucks, and all sorts of small animals frolick in the green pastures. This drives my girl Morgan crazy. She whines, she bays, and she is not making a stellar impression on our new neighbors.
Is there any hope? Will she simply get used to the rabbits as she did the squirrels in the city or does her DNA prohibit her from ever calming down?
Sincerely,
