Shepherd or Husky or both? Bad breeding of Shepherd or mix?

Shepherd or Husky or both? Bad breeding of Shepherd or mix?

Rescued her awhile ago but I love hearing the opinion of everyone. The vet thinks she is husky/shepherd and the breeder where we got our first shepherd (years back) believes she is a bad breeding of the GSD (she was in a local shelter) and I am not sure! Sometimes her tail goes up and sometimes it doesn't.

She's a beauty though. (On the right)

I agree with your breeder that is a GSD I cant tell you how many purebred's I have seen that look just like that

That's what I thought, too but then at times, her tails curls up like a husky and she walks like one on occassion as well. Her poor hips are already going. Poor girl.

Looks like a shepherd to me as well.  She has the traits of an american shepherd.

Long lines a little taller.  Here is a picture of my girl.  She is an american german shepherd.  They are great!

At first I thought she better represented the American German Shepherd however her head is fuller (not as narrow) and her body is not as slender. My first GSD was an American breed GSD and she looked a lot different. She passed away sadly, but once I scan pictures of her and Bama (the dog in question) onto the computer, you can compare and see what I'm talking about. Thank you for all the compliments to everyone - I love her sooo much and am very glad we rescued her. She's such a good girl. I love it when the neighborhood kids ring the door bell and ask, "Can the police dogs come out and play?" LOL! Definitely NOT police dogs! HEHE!

The little one is what I call a "Houdini dog." We recently had to change our door handles because she likes to opens the doors. LOL!

At first I ws going to say GSD/Husky but she's kind of big, which makes me think of GSD/Alaskan Malamute. But some huskies do get big.

I thought it was funny, I posted Madi's picture and then went back and looked at yours.  You are right, much shorter compact head.  Never-the-less she is very cute.  I get the comment about the neighborhood kids.  When we first moved in the house they would knock on the door asking if Madi could come out and play.  I thought that was odd but I now see other kids in the world do this.  Madi loves kids, people and life in general.

This is a recent picture of her.  She has lost about 10lbs in the past 6 months from being sick.  It is hard to see it when you are with her everyday but looking at the picture you can really see it.

Congratulations on your new addition.  Enjoy every moment!

I immediately though GSD but quite frankly i have never seen 2 that look alike around here! Here the one we are fostering now.Hes a big sweetheart! Some people have told me he looks like a shiloh shepherd.I have no idea what that is so i  cant be sure.

Shiloh Shepherds resemble German Shepherds except that they're a little thicker and have a longer coat and I think often have a more sound disposition than the GSDs that are so frequently badly bred.  They're very rare as far as I know.  [linkhttp://www.shilohshepherds.org/]http://www.shilohshepherds.org/[/link]

I agree that the OP's dog is a pure GSD, not of great show lines, but a GSD nonetheless.  She's quite pretty I might add :)

Thank you :) Yes, she is most definitely not show quality (although she is just as beautiful to me but wouldn't meet the show requirements anyway because she was a stray).

Both are smart as heck, though. Thanks for the input everyone! The doggies went to doggy beach today and had a BLAST. After her bath, she looks like a wolf!

What do you guys think the smaller dog is mixed with (Athena)? I know she is Shepherd but I am not sure what else. For a second I thought maybe Basenji? The face don't you think? Any thoughts?

Until I saw the "dog on the right" part, I thought your original question was about the smaller dog!  LOL  I agree that the dog on the right is a pure bred GSD.  She is considered silver and black, isn't she?  Anyway, on to the smaller dog- she could be all GSD, too.  I've seen quite a few American bred GSDs that were fine boned (well compared to other GSDs that is).  But, to be perfectly honest, my first thought was that she's Husky/GSD.  Your comment about her being a Houidini made me think Husky even more.  They can be quite the escape artists.  Even tho the color is different, her face and eyes remind me of the Husky/GSD we had when we first got married.  Here he is with our friend's Golden:

This is our grand dog, Lucky, a Siberian.  It's not the best picture, but yo can make out some of his face for comparision.

You think the smaller one has husky in her? I would have never thought.. lol. I never thought this because of her coloration but the face on your dog does remind me of her face! What beautiful dogs, btw. :)

She is DEFINITELY a Houdini dog but I wasn't surprised because all my Shepherds have been extremely intelligent (she's just the most, I think). Is that a husky quality, as well?

Thanks for the input! She's smaller though- between 40-50lbs. The bigger one is about 78lbs.
