Siberian Huskies

    Siberian Huskies

I have two beautiful Sibes. I am fascinated with the breed, their history and their fantastic temperament.  They are fun, fast, smart and just wonderful for the family.  Anyone else have them or like them?

i love huskys too. i owned one and recently adopted anoteher that was 6 months old. i love them and think they are great as well. eversince i got Blaze a buddy from the shelter they both seem to be very happy and play all the time. (less howling as well) i guess cause neither of them are as bored as they would be alone.

    Hey guys!
Sibes do bring out the best in us I think. There is nothing like the talk of these pups.  When they miss you, you know it.  And it is warm  & friendly.  They know people, family and understand each one.

Anyone have any trouble training their Sibes?  I have two pups together and it is a challenge.  One walks well on the leash and the other just wants to go fast!  She could easily win a race on her own and she could  pull a picinic table at 5 mos old.

Training my sibes at times is a challenge.  Babydoo loves to run non-stop everwhere shes goes while the other two walk ok on a leash out in public.  I love the husky chatter and howls  its funny watching them all play together.  Is anyone eles sibe good with kids? and somewhat get along with cats.

Here is a pic of my girls and our male Gizmo

Scoobychick, love your pics.  The pups all look quite happy too~  like they are smiling. [:D]

I had a sable, black white one  w/blue eyes ..somewhat like yours.  He was a solemn loving boy.  I do miss him so much.   Now I have two that are full of fire!  One likes to play in the little pool, like you have pictured.  But the other dog wont go in it.   Huskies aren't much for swimming either, are they!  But they do love that snow, when it comes.  Guess you don't get too much snow in Kentucky, huh? [8|]

You asked if they are good with kids and cats!??   They are great with training.  We are still working on the jumping issues (these pups are 7 1/2 mos old).  Seems like I have to watch out for the elderly the most when they visit.  As far as relating with cats, ...our old cat hates them.  The pups love her food!  So it is kind of like they are in different worlds.  I am sure we could get a kitten and there would be training involved, but the result could be friendship, I think. your right huskies aren't much for swimming unless there is something in the water they want.  We get alittle snow during the winter months but it never stays around, snow is a blast for huskies.  I love when it turns cold the dogs become more active and hyper.  They can get along with cats if they are brought up around them.  Mine thinks cats are nothing more than play toys.

Mine's a mix of Siberian Husky and Lab. I had a thread a while ago about the Siberian Husky but I think it has been stashed into the archives.

    Hi whitewidow!,
I have thought that when the dogs do most talking is when they are just so excited to see you or they were sad and complaining about " Where have you been?" !
My pups are talkative if you get them going sometimes, but mostly they are very content as they have one another all of the time and are never lonely.

That is nice you got one from a shelter.  People who get rid of a husky must have a good reason. [8|]   I just cant imagine getting rid of my dogs.  Would be like getting rid of a child to me.  Were there any behaviors that you had to work on with the shelter dog?

I looked for one and couldn't find it, so started a new one.  Your dog is handsome.  Is his tail bushy/curled or lab type?  That is a good combination of two good breeds.  What is his temperament like and I suppose he is a smart dog!    Since he has lab, does he like swimming?
I was always so surprised when I couldn't get my first husky to swim, he just loved wading though.  I dont' bother trying with these kids.  One won't go in water at all !
Snow is their thing.  My older dog would get depressed with rain and wouldn't go out.  These two dont seem to notice the weather at all.  [8D]

Shadow's tail is bushy and his carried in a hook or over his back, like a Husky. But he has a low tailset, like a lab. He is Husky in temperment, metabolism, much of the physiology. He has 4 colors. Black, brown, red, and white or white-gray. He grows a thick undercoat that is white, making his total look change in winter. As a puppy, he would not go in water. Aside from that, he will play in the rain or snow and will certainly walk in it. He will lay down in the snow to relax or play with a toy. He can run at least 30 mph and, at only 62 pounds, can pull like a freight train. His eyes are iridescent amber. It's funny that his eyes have more of a wolf eye color than anything else but I don't think there's any wolf in him.

He is very smart. He can tell the difference between english, spanish, and german. If he's in the yard when I get home, I have a standard greeting phrase so that he knows it's me. One time, I tried it in spanish. He cocked his head and gave me a quizzical look. I spoke english and he ran for the back door. Another time, I tried it in german. He stood there waiting for the english. When I spoke english, he ran for the back door. Heaven for him is below freezing with a north wind and some white stuff on the ground.

    Ron,

I think that last pic is the first one I've seen where Shadow isn't chewing anything.  He's a beautiful boy.

He's a chewer and yes, he is beautiful. He's so pretty, many people thought he was a she, despite obvious evidence of being male. Here's some more of his colors. The first pic is after the spring blow, 2005. The second shot was in winter 2005. It shows the lightness of his fur. These pics were with a cheapie digital.

Wow, that is wild how his fur is just white during the winter.  He just looks like he has lab fur in the other pics.  It is incredible how much undercoat that they grow.  Have you heard that you can use that white fur to make yarn?  I saw a woman spinning it at a fair.  She will double spin it to make it stronger and then it is used to knit a shawl or something!  It is quite pretty too.
