My brother and his fiancee have been giving thought to getting a dog.
They live in a very nice sized townhouse...probably close to the size of our home in square feet... They have a small privacy fenced in back yard, but still big enough for a dog to play fetch or stretch his legs.
My brother likes the looks of bully dogs, and mastiff breeds. He really likes bigger dogs in general...but he does realize that their living situation is not a proper one for a larger breed of dog. And as far as grooming goes, I am thinking they def. need a low maintance dog..as far as brushing and bathing all the time. No shaggy dogs...I just dont see them taking the brush out every other day or so. But they are responsible, and would take good care of the dogs hygene issues.
Living in the townhouse, the dog would need to be a breed that is not known for constant barking. Also they are childless right now..but they are getting married soon, and I do think that children are in the not so distant future. They have two cats that are tolerant of dogs...they pretty much just keep their distance..but they dont hate my dog.
Both my brother and his fiancee are familiar with dogs, and have owned dogs in the past..but not on their own. The one aspect of this dog breed that I am finding from just reading about it is whether or not it is for the average dog owner.
Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Or if there are other breeds that sound better than the MBT...please feel free to make suggestions! So far I have been just looking, and they dont have their hearts set on any one breed. More than likely the dog they get will be from a shelter...and it seems that the only Bull terriers that show up on Petfinder are the Pit Bull terriers and Am. Staff. terriers. Because of their homowners insurance and other issues, these are breeds that we have been somewhat reluctant to consider. But not completely unwilling to look at either...both breeds are a little bigger than what they can accomodate IMO.
