i see there are a lot of "what breed is this?" questions...

    here's mine.

here are some pictures of my dog, Barney. i'm not sure what breed he is, i'm pretty sure he's mixed. people have asked me before if he's a "saluki whippet" (???).

sorry about the poor quality pictures, i tried to take different photos to show his different characteristics. what is distinctive about him is that he has a very bushy tail (bushy on the underside) which sticks up in the air when he's out on his walks. he's also very fast, and has a very light build. i wouldnt say he's particularly intelligent but he has a very nice nature. he's only aggressive towards other dogs (sometimes) and when i play fight with him.

edit: his tail's also curly, it's never straight. facing to the left it curls like a question mark "?"

What a gorgeous dog you have!

He looks to me to be maybe a border collie or golden retriever crossed with a saluki? I'm not entirely sure though..

Another forum member, Nikki_burr, has a saluki (I think) that looks kinda like Barney.

    I kinda see golden/saluki mix.

I'd say collie mix? Maybe Collie/Golden mix? he's very pretty.

thanks for the replies! a lot of people say he's a handsome dog, even the vet once. i guess it goes to show it's true what they say about pets being like their owners [:D]

i had heard before he might be mixed with a collie. the thing is i'm not an expert. i would like to see nikki_burr's dog.

thanks. if i can i'll upload some pictures from my brother's camera phone

He looks like a lurcher. Sheepdog or working breed mixed with sighthound. Look up "lurcher" on the internet and I bet you'll see a ton of similiar dogs to yours. Here you go for a start -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurcher

The Border collie essentially started out as a lurcher - they called them cur dogs then.

Yes, I have a girl I believe is a Golden Retriever/Saluki X!  She is a sweet girl who looks a lot like an underfed Golden, but her face is longer and quite thin and her body is very houndy, and she's got a lot of extra feathering on her tail and most noticeably, between her toes, which is a distinct Saluki characteristic.

Here's a picture of furry Saluki feet (found the picture through Google):

Your pup does resemble a Saluki quite a bit, and he also does resemble Border Collie or some kind of sheepdog like that.  The lurcher idea is a good one I think.  He's very cute whatever he is!

yes i certainly see the resemblance to a lurcher. well, the one in the wikipedia page that is.

is it possible for a lurcher to be part saluki? Barney has got very similar hair to a saluki except he doesnt really have the same furry feet, although after writing that i've just seen a picture of a collie with the same type of hair...so confusing!

The pictures are not very clear, but he also looks a bit like a Borzoi.  How big is he?

I know it's fun to speculate that you might have a Saluki mix, but I just don't think there are that many stray Saluki's out producing litters.  It would be far more likely that you have a herding mix.

To be honest, Nikki, what I see in your dog is houndy and herdy and maybe Golden-y, but the feet are also suggestive of some spaniels...a far more likely combo, to me anyway.

Whatever they are, we will likely never know, but it certainly is fun to guess, and they are beautiful whatever is in the mix. [:)]

Salukis and Borzoi are really uncommon around us. Unless there are more where you are, I'd go with collie mix of some sort. Our collie has the same hairy feet--I have to trim the hair every few months.

Lurchers can indeed be part saluki a true lurcher is a sighthound crossed with a working dog such as a collie.  From the pictures your dog does look like a saluki lurcher but cant really see the chest area, which should be deep, down to the elbows.

Saluki lurchers are quite common here as for the feet well you can also get smooth saluki.

Dont really see borzoi in there you maybe pleased to hear!  Ive got what is thought to be a borzoi saluki x - which isnt a lurcher but a long dog!

Your dog is beautiful whatever has gone in to make him.

All my rough (long) coated dogs have the hair between the toes. We call it "hobbit feet" and keep it trimmed - it gets mud caked there pretty easily. Dogs who work in deep snow can get their toes injured by ice buildup if this hair is not trimmed. This is why the smooth (short) coat is actually an adaptation favored by shepherds who work the high hills, contrary to what you might think. The short coat is very thick and weatherproof and of course needs no trimming.

It looks a lot like a Borzoi mix to me. It just has the expressions of a Borzoi.  My friend has one that I see every day and her expressions and movements are identical.  But, again, with a mix, it can be very hard to tell.  Very pretty dog anyway!  How much does he weigh?  Here are a couple of pictures I found.
