I just joined and found this thread. We own 2 english mastiffs and I really don't see mastiff in this pup.
Mastiffs have a definite "stop" where the forehead meets the bridge of the nose. The size is also different. Of course there are about 9 types of "mastiff" breeds, but a "Mastiff" in the AKC books is the (English) Mastiff. These guys are around 30# at 8 weeks and gain about 5# a week.
The Bullmastiff is a true breed but was produced by breeding the English Mastiff (huge, but lazy) with a type of Bulldog. The Bullmastiff is smaller and more active than the English - and looks like this
