I'm not sure. My first thought (don't know why) was German Shepherd, but I honestly couldn't say for sure. Wait around for someone who knows dogs better than me. [;)]

I think he looks a little Mastiffy to me.  He has that coloring and he's quite large for 4 mos., therefore I am guessing the father is also a giant breed.  His head is boxy and he's got that bit of black mask.  I don't see much Saint in him except for the coat.  However, that's a tough ;picture to really see him fully.  Any different pictures available??

I think he looks a little Mastiffy to me...

That could be from the Saint.  In another thread I mentioned there is something about him that looks a little "Labby" to me.  Looking at this pic, I see a little GSD, too.  I'm wondering if maybe Dad was GSD and Lab.  He really is a good looking pup.  I see a lot of intellegence and personality in those eyes.  I can't wait to see what he grows up to look like!

I don't see much saint either. The only thing that looks familiar, is he sits with his legs to his side, just like my saints like to do, lol.

If it is known for sure that Mom is a St. Bernard my guess would be Dad is a yellow lab.

how do you get a black mask from a lab parent?
    • Gold Top Dog
I say theres some sort of GSD in the father.  The pup reminds me of my GSD/golden a bit- only a lot bigger.  Perhaps the father was GSD/Golden or GSD/lab?

I don't remember the genetics behind it right now, but I was told once that Saints have a black mask, it's just broken up by the white markings - like boxers.

It's hard to tell in that pic how the pups ears hang naturally, but if daddy was a shepherd, I'd be likely to think that the ears would be more erect. Another thing to look at is the feet. Labs have pronounced webbing between the toes. If the pup has this, I'd say lab. If he doesn't - especially if his ears are erect or partially erect, I'd say shepherd.

Lab & Malinois. That looks like a Malinois coat to me, but I could be crazy.
