I agree totally with Glenmar. I have four collies, am 57, and for a brief period considered breeding one of them, but luckily I know the breeder pretty well and she talked me out of it. She spent years researching, learning what other breeders were reputable, not to mention learning all about the breed. Unless you breed indriscrimately, there is very little money to be had from it because a sound breeder gives the dogs all types of tests and puts a lot of time and expense into them, and doesn't start ot with the idea that (forgive me) it would just be "a cool thing to do." Plus if you go into breeding for the long haul -- most breeders have a secondary job to keep bread on the table and pay for the breeding anyway.

Yep, after you graduate High School there are so many choices and if your anything like me you will change your mind several times before you know exactly what you want to do. I'm in my 6th year of college and still trying to decide what I want. It's so good that you want to adopt, thats always a great thing to do.

Please stay around this forum, there are some wonderful people here who are very dog-smart and can help you with any questions you have. It's a very fun community here and everyone just loves dogs.[;)]

i know you are really excited about getting a new puppy and i hope you find the perfect one but, please wait to begin even considering breeding. it takes years to research and study to be a responsible breeder and if taken lightly there are so many things that can go wrong. poorly bred dogs usually end up with a lifetime of suffering and it is happening with alarming regularity today. the best advice i can give you is the same as i give my grooming clients when they ask me about breeding their pets, just enjoy your pet and leave the breeding to professionals and if in the future you still want to breed, start by really researching everything on the breed you chose

thanks to everyone who said, "get a mom and her puppies from a shelter" and to chuffy for her hardline stance on "pairing to improve the breed" only.

there are far too many homeless dogs that are euthanized every day to go around breeding for the fun of it.[:(]

I think it's great that you realize you shouldn't get a dog until you have time for it. Between now and then, stick around, there's a lot to learn about dogs on this board. And you can oogle over all the cuties in the Photos for Sharing section. [:)]
