Does anyone else own a cockapoo? Do you feel there is a stigma to owning a "doodle"?

Paid nearly half of what cockapoo's go for in the petstores. Did alot of research on different breeds of dogs and main reason we wanted a cockapoo was that they didn't shed, didn't have a history of chronic health problems and they were of a smaller size.  We love him dearly and celebrated his 1st B-Day yesterday. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. It seemed to me that this was better than going to a "mall pet store" or something.   see, this sounds like a puppy mill outlet to me. I have no problems with you wanting a "doodle" or whatever, or wanting a puppy rather than an older rescue dog, but financially supporting irresponsible breeders, especially the horrors of puppy mills, is just wrong. Cockapoos have been around for SO long that they arent even in high demand anymore.   IMO cockapoos stand apart from other designer breeds. • micksmom Posted : 8/17/2006 2:48:14 PM ORIGINAL: waxen I have a cockapoo.  ...Did alot of research on different breeds of dogs and main reason we wanted a cockapoo was that they didn't shed, didn't have a history of chronic health problems...   Just a heads up- Cocker Spaniels shed, so cockapoos stand a 50/50 chance of shedding.  The one down the road sheds almost as much as our Lab?English Setter did. Also, Cockers and Poodles both have a history of ear infections.  While it's not really a hereditary thing, it is due to the thick hair in the ears.  Also, I've known Cockapoos that had allergies, resulting in constant itching and frequent hot spots and vet visits.  That said,  I haven't met a Cockapoo yet that didn't have a wonderful, loving personality, but, if I ever got one, it would come from a rescue. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available.
