I was going to say Husky/Border Collie mix. Very pretty! Love his markings!

I don't see why you are laughing at the idea he might be a Border collie? There's a possibility he might have some sheltie or collie but the rest of him is consistent with many dogs I've known, and he's not outside the range of looks for a purebred BC. Templeton's Moss lines. Here's a purebred, same lines:http://www.freewebs.com/roygoutte/profile.htm Here's a pic of Moss himself, though awfully grainy, you can see he's a long nosed, big boned, smooth coated black and tan just like this young dog.

    And a predecessor of his:

    No collie here:

    Or here:

And here's my own Rick dog:

Nope, DNA doesn't distinguish between breeds so it may always be a mystery. He's a cute dog though, good luck with him! [:)]

OK, seventy five pounds is pretty big for a BC! Could be a mix, maybe with Doberman? You'd think such a mix would be a noticeably clever dog, however.

I just always feel the need to step in and point out that many Border collies don't look like the ones at AKC shows. LOL, I guess everyone has to have a mission in life.

Here's the sire of my new pupper (born last weekend) - his daddy and his grandmother were International Supreme Champions - but most people wouldn't be able to ID him if they saw him in the pound (God forbid).

I could agree there's Collie in there.  (And just so you know, the rough and smooth are the same breed, just different coats.  If you bred a rough to a slick coated dog, you will usually get a short haired dog).  I don't think it's Husky/Collie for two reasons - not enough hair and those ears would be prick.  With that earset, I'd say it would have to be something like a Lab or maybe even a Dobe.  Dobe/Shep wouldn't explain the white markings -- you've got to bring that into the picture.

Dobes are not typically aggressive dogs.  They are protective over their families but the "aggressive dog" thing is just media hype.  Gotta thank all those B horror movies in the 70s that used them as a sign of evil!  [:'(]
