Keep Mr. Bear in your thoughts please

I posted a while back (July, I think) that Bear had a seizure.  Bamaeskie posted the name of a really good book about canine epilepsy, which I bought and read right away.  Since then, Bear has had a few more seizures, each about 3 weeks apart, so I wasn't panicking until last night.  He started having them Tuesday night and had six more right up through this morning.  Got him into the vet, they are doing a CBC to rule out other issues, sedated him, prescribed phenobarbitol, and sent us home with strict instructions to follow up in two weeks.  I won't know the results of the blood work until Friday.  He was pretty exhausted and disoriented, even before the valium.

Please keep Mr. Bear in your thoughts.  I know epilepsy can be controlled, but I'm really worried about the big guy.  He's my buddy - he's been by my side faithfully while I've had relationship troubles, he gets me out of bed in the morning.  I don't wanna lose him...

We'll keep him in our thoughts here for sure.

Good thoughts for Bear.  Seizures are so scary.  I had a Lab for 13 years with epilepsy.  She was started on pheno and then we switched to potassium bromide.  The seizures were very well controlled and she lived a long and happy life.

Hope your boy is better soon.

I'm really sorry to hear that Bear's seizures have increased and I completely understand how worried you must be. I'll keep both you and Bear in my thoughts and prayers.

Absolutely -- it's scarey stuff.  Lifting you both up!

Thanks so much everyone...I can't tell you how much we appreciate it.

I'm a bit frazzled today since you can probably guess I didn't sleep much last night.  Bear is currently zonked out in his crate - I put him in there to stop him from pacing and running into things.  He went out like a light once he hit the cushion.  Now we wait and see.

My heart was broken when I lost Shari and adopting Bear helped me realize I could love another dog as much.  As I said, he's been a good companion through life's troubles and we have a lot of fun together.  Last weekend I went shopping and found this silly toy at (of all places) Walmart.  It's a rooster and when you squeeze it, it goes "***-a-doodle-doo" 3 times.  Annoying but hilarious.  It's so funny to watch him poke it with his nose and make it crow.  Then he'll run up to me with it in his mouth biting on it enough to make it crow numerous times and he seems so pleased because I'm laughing.  He does it over and over and acts surprised almost every time - like "wow, what's that noise?  It's not just a squeaker".  He's so silly!

Tina, I don't remember hearing about Bear's earlier seizure issue -- I don't get on the forum as much as I used to, so perhaps I missed that thread (or, as is very likely, my middle-aged memory failed like it so often does these days).

I'm so sorry to hear of Bear's current scare, and I hope you get some good news from the vet and that it's something that can be managed relatively easily.  I can only imagine how awful it would be to see your sweetheart having a seizure, not knowing what to do, not being able to explain to him what's happening, etc.  Please give him a gentle hug from me, and I'll keep you both in my thoughts and send lots of good vibes your way.

Tina, I know how scared I was when I thought that Grady was having seizures.  I'm sending you hugs & seizure free vibes Bear's way.  Start reading up on seizures & different ways to deal with them.  Keep calm, that's one way to help him.  Stress can trigger seizures.

We're sending "no more seizure" thoughts your way.

I hope he's doing better. Poor baby, they can't tell us how they feel. I'm really sorry, I know how it is to worry when one of your "Kids" are sick, same feeling. I'm sure there is a myriad of emotions running through your mind. He'll be OK, he has a mommy that takes care of him, they'll find the right med and he'll be set.
