Toby's going to the vet (jennie_c_d)

Ya'll, think some good things, for him. Say a prayer, light a candle, cross your fingers. We'll take whatever you've gotSmile

Toby is my four-legged brotherWink His birthday is May 19, and he'll be 15. He's about a 40 lb, spoiled rotten mutt. His mother was Dalmatian/Dachshund, and his father was a Pekingese, LOL. He has developed a sudden, and very pronounced limp.  I'm very, very concerned. He had an appointment with his regular vet, yesterday, but... the office decided to be stupid and not call Mom to tell her it'd be a substitute vet (after she specifically said which vet she wanted to see). I offered to take him to Emma's vet, on Monday, since I'll be off, so that's where he's going. It should be an adventure, LOL. He's fairly difficult to handle, but poor kid... he hurts! I was clipping his nails the other day, and he bit me. Hard.

Anyhow, he's having a full blood panel run, and a good exam, and then I guess he'll probably get an x ray, too.  Hopefully, he isn't too flipped out by the experience.

Here's a picture of the handsome boy, so you can see who you're thinking aboutWink

I have a 4 legged bro named Toby too.  Good luck old man, we're pulling for ya.

Lots of good healing vibes coming your way.  Smile

    • Gold Top Dog

    Good healing thoughts for Toby!

You know ... if I was part dal/dox/peke -- I'd probably be ticked off too!  I mean ... talk about not knowing whether to be tall, short, long haired, shorthaired or ... what?  Poor dog has as mixed a heritage as *I* do!! LOL   All of *my* ethnic backgrounds were people who all were at odds with each other -- I've always figured it was no wonder I was confused!!

Toby -- let the vet find what's wrong.  You don't have to be defensive - if you let the vet know where it hurts they'll be able to make it better!! *gentle massage right behind the ears/neck*

Toby, I hope you feel better you handsome old man.  Like Callie said, let the vet find your owie so you can feel better.  The vet is your friend.  I'm sure he'll even give you a cookie or 2 if you're a good boy.

Da Boyz & I are sending you all kinds of good vibes.

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL, Callie, I never thought about that! He is quite the mix. His hair looks short, but it's *just* long enough to mat.

He's the nicest, sweetest, wonderfullest boy around. I hardly remember life without him. I know my brother doesn't remember not having him (he'd just turned 4, when we got Toby). I hope he'll be nice at the vet's, LOL, but it's unlikely. He's had some bad experiences with rough handling, in the past, and he can be touchy. I'll stay with him, though, and hopefully, he'll do fine. The vet lets me hold Emma for everything, so I'm sure she'll let me hold my Georgie boy, too. (yes, I call the dog George... I have no idea why)

All kinds of healing vibes, moosedog magic, coyotedog magic all headed Toby's way! I hope it's nothing serious. Maybe he just jumped off the couch and pulled a muscle, hope it's something that simple!

Let us know how it does, ok?

Well, Toby is completely exhausted! His bloodwork will be back, tomorrow. The vet says it just feels like he's getting arthritic in the front legs. She gave him some Deramax, and wants him back in a week for a re check. He's on joint stuff, already (I put MSM in all of the water bowls, and both he and Emma eat Happy Hips and Sea Mobility, EVERY day), and the vet was glad to hear that. She said it's probably slowing down the issues he's having. I'm going to try to get Mom to put some Nutra Joint in his food. He was a little... overstimulated, LOL. He doesn't get out much, and all the handling wore him out. We discussed acupuncture, but the vet doesn't think that's the best option, for him (he's too wild, really.... he doesn't know how to stand on a table). If he's not any better, after a week, he'll have x rays.

Well, I called about Toby's bloodwork, today. He had one elevated enzyme, but the vet said it was related to bony changes, and indicates arthritis. Otherwise, he's going great! All of his numbers are wonderful, for a dog his age.

He's feeling pretty ok, too. He's a bit brighter, and his limp is far less pronounced. The vet says to keep up the NSAIDS for two weeks, then  use them as needed.

milk thistle and ... can you get your mom to add yucca to his diet?  Glad you posted - I been wonderin!!

Glad he's okay; sounds like he's doing pretty good for his age.
