Please Pray for Bubblegum

I am so sorry that I haven't come back to check these posts...I just read the last few and can only thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. I wish I had good news...but she just keeps getting worse...I know I should have taken her to maybe OSU..but I just did'nt...it was too hard and too far and just almost impossible.   She keeps getting worse..... Thursday night she seemed a bit better,,,and slept.... and I took her to her old vet yesterday...the clinic that I chose carefully when I got her.    She was put on several pills.... and overnight she got worse,,,,now I can't get a thing down her...so I can't get the pills in her... I am so sad...and I feel that I have to think about putting her down.    I am the saddest person in the world.... she is much too sweet and wonderful to let suffer like this....she just looks at me with horribly sad eyes...looking for help.   She has gone from one thing to another..and now she seems to have nothing left. I can't believe my big strong beautiful baby could go down so fast.     Again,,,thank you for your love and prayers...and please don't stop them, maybe there is hope that I can't seem to see. I need to go to her...I don't get on the computer much for the last days....I spend them with her.

Oh Dyan, I am so sorry to hear that she is not doing so good. I will say even more prayers for your sweet baby today.

    • Gold Top Dog

Dyan - I'm so terribly sorry. I was so hopeful that this was just a temporary thing and she'd be doing better. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers and continue to hope for things to take a turn for the better. I'm sending huge hugs your way too.

I'm so very, very sorry Dyan. To have a healthy dog go downhill so fast, and not knowing why, has to be driving you crazy. Is there an e-vet in your area that could keep her over the weekend and give her  meds with an IV; we have an e-vet in our city that's open nights and weekends. Could you crush the pills and mix them with water and use a syringe to give them to her? Maybe you could give her baby food or watered down canned food with a syringe? I'll pray that Bubblegum pulls through  this. Sending big {{hugs}}.

Lighting a candle for dear Bubblegum to rally...

Dyan, I found by accident that "I Can't believe It's Not Butter," the whipped kind, make the pills very attractive and slip right down the gullet.  Not sure how it would word for  a sick dog, but it might be worth a try.

Dyan, you must be so heartsick.  Callie's suggestion worked for me and my B&W dog - I used a dosing syringe, and she took her pills with homemade beef broth, or watery baby food.  When all else fails, you can try putting the pill in a small amount of peanut butter in a spoon, and just scrape the PB and pill off from back to front against the back of her front upper teeth.  Sequoyah is very good at getting rid of pills, but that works for her every time.  Nothing prepares you for your special dog to be so sick.  But, know that we are thinking of her, and you, every day.

Did her old vet have any idea what's causing her to be sick? Have anymore x-rays or blood tests been done?  Have you asked her breeder if there are any unusual diseases Great danes can be susceptible too?

Oh no!  This can't be.  I've got my special orchid candle lit in Bubby's honor.  I thought she'd enjoy the smell.  Am sending out prayers, healing vibes, and lots of hugs for you hon.

Just a quick update...I need to get some sleep,,,I was up with my Bubby the whole night last night...worried sick with her all day.

She is in ICU with IVs with antibiotics.   She has pneumonia and severe sinus infection.

Please pray she responds to her medication. I'm hopeful and will try to keep that attitude to get some much needed rest tonight while someone else is taking care of her.

I promise I will come back and respond to each and every one of you...you have all be so kind as to light candles and say prayers for my black and white baby....she needs them som much.   THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

    Dyan

Ok, looks like you got in to update this yourself, Dyan ...

folks Dyan has worn herself out not only getting Bubby into ICU but also doing a ton of laundry, etc at home for Bubblegum so she doesn't spread germs.  Good for you, Dyan, in acting quick - despite the fact that you've been at the vet several times in the past week, you realized she was worsening and needed fast help!!!  You rock, 'Mom'!!!!!!!!s

No .. this is NOT your fault, Dyan ... sometimes they just get sick, and despite that a vet has given meds, you can just plain tell they aren't getting better and you've got to go a step further.  The fact that you WENT further for her means so much Dyan - don't you dare beat yourself up (she was in her email to me, folks -- it's not her fault that Bubby has gotten 'more sick';).  You've known something was wrong and you pursued it -- that's a GOOD thing!!!

You were thot of all day long by David and I.  We went to Sea World (another whole post I'll make in a few minutes) ... but in the new 'pet show' they've got they have a lovely Harlequin Dane (quite the old fella, named Apache) ... but OF COURSE it made me think all over again of Bubblegum (and you and DPU and Danehaven and the other Dane folks on here).

So see -- we're just gonna keep lifting you up!!!! *hugs*

Oh, Dyan.  I've been thinking about you and Bubby so, so much.  Mike and I even had a long conversation this afternoon trying to figure out what could be wrong. You know when two "parents" start comparing, "well, when Willow went thru this or that we did this. . ."  Then we read your update together.  Actually, we were both sort of relieved that they were able to figure this out and get her on the right treatment.

I didn't want to send an e-mail to you because from the sounds of things here you were very busy and I know you'd try to respond and I didn't want to make you feel like you had too.

We are praying for Bubby as if she was our own.  We've "known" her for so long on here that we feel that way.   We will light another candle tonight too.

Lori expressed it so well; I think we all feel this way. The sinus infection explains why the base of her ears were so sensitive; my ears and cheekbones hurt when I have one. My sister-in-law gets sinus infections that also spread to her lungs and cause bronchitis. It's only a guess, but that may have been how Bubby got pneumonia. Callie is right; you are a great Mom to Bubby and have been doing everything possible to help her. I'll join the others and light a candle too.

Just wanted to say that you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Just got a call from the vet...Bubby is not doing that good. Her temp went down overnight...but she is coughing. I thought that was a good thing...but she said it is to get it out...and it isn't.  Dont' know what that means.   The worst part is we have to have her out of there by 7 AM or she goes to specialties.....that means Special Practice Doctors...........and they charge anywhere from $2500 to 3000 and then the treatment. We don't have that kind of money.   We could get her and take her to our vet...and she can be on Ivs...but then she has to be out of there at 6.    So if she still needed ivs....then she would have to go to ER by night.   And this is a Great Dane that we can't lift very easily.    This is so scary.  She won't eat for them...we are going there with some chicken and dog food...hoping she will eat for us.   That could make a difference.
