Prayers for my SIL

    Prayers for my SIL

I don't normally ask for prayers but I know how powerful a group i-doggers are when they pray for something.  My SIL was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer.  She's only 42 years old.  She has 2 lovely kids & is married to DH's bro.  Normally this type of lung cancer hits people who have smoked all their lives & are in their 70's.  She's got all her doctor's doing the best they can for her because she's so young.  She's been through one round of chemo & radiation.  She had a PET scan the other day & it seems that cancer has shown up in other places too.  All the family has been doing all we can for her but now it seems we need the i-dog big guns brought in.  Please send some prayers out for Laura.

Oh Annie, this is so sad.
Please know that Laura will be in my prayers and that a candle will be burning brightly for her.

Thanks ladies.  Something just hit me.  Once you ask for prayers and you get kind responses it seems to lessen some of the burden.  Thank you for letting me share some of my burden with you.

A problem shared is a problem halved -- I have always believed that, and this last year has proven it to me.  I will surely be lifting her up (and the family too).

I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL.  What a scary time for her and all your family.  I have a friend who had a double mastectomy last year, she's only 41, with 2 small children.  A cancer diagnosis in someone so young is such a blow.  I hope the thoughts and prayers from everyone on this forum, as well as from her "non-internet" circle of loved ones brings her the strength she needs to face her continued treatments.  Sending Laura and your family all the good vibes possible.

Healing vibes and positive thoughts for Laura and her entire family and wishes for strength for all throughout this process.

I know only too well how difficult it is for a family to face the adversity of cancer striking young.  I pray not only for her health, but courage, dignity and fortitude.

I don't know if they live near by Annie, but I'll share with you something we did for my girlfriend that helped me feel like I was supporting her even though we live many states apart.  I flew home with another friend after J's initial diagnosis and masectomy.  We did girly things, went wig, hat and false eyelash shopping with her, watched movies and ate pizza.  And then A and I spent an entire day in her mother's kitchen cooking and freezing meals for the family so J did not have to be burdened with guilt or worries about feeding her family. A found us a cookbook that was tailored to this process - meals designed for freezing in bulk - directions on how to package, how to label for reheating, quantities, etc.

When A and I had to go home, we knew we were leaving a gift behind that J andher family would rely on for weeks. And that whenever they pulled a meal out to prepare, they would feel our support and love.

    Keep us updated, Annie.

Lisa Marie, what a wonderful thing you did for J.  Unfortunately Laura lives closer to you than to me.  I have been thinking of going out there for a week or so to help out but I'm not sure if it will help or be more of a burden.  JIC I do go out to see her, what's the name of the cookbook?

I know exactly how you feel, Annie, about whether being there is a help or a burden - it's a tough line to walk and figure out.  Unfortunately, I've been through this a bit more then I'd like already having lost a very close friend to primary brain cancer just about 3 years ago.  He was just 41.

The book was just great - it was our friend, A, who found it online and it is so well organized and easy to use.  It's called The Freezer Cooking Manual from 30 Day Gourmet: A Month of Meals Made Easy (Paperback) and we got it at Amazon  - they still carry it. Only caveat is that there's not a lot of spice to the recipes - likely by design.  I'd say feel free to add some more salt and pepper and, of course, more can be added upon reheating.  We did lots of the mashed potatoes, the swiss steak, the chicken pot pies (smelled amazing when we were making), stuffed manicotti.

You'll have to ask Laura, but I think a visit can only bring her strength - and allow her to let go of some of her worries.  Her treatment is clearly going to be aggressive - really, when isn't it?  When my other friend was sick (they lived very close), DH and I and others did all sorts of stuff, from lawn care, to grocery shopping, to picking up perscriptions. Even doctor's visits.  Or just picking up a DVD and take out and bringing it by the house so we could just hang out.

I really will be pulling for Laura...whole heartedly.
