She has the will to fight and is not alone in this thanks to you cousin. Knowledgeable help will be found and we stay hopeful for a positive outcome.

Keep going, Patti; there is a good end to this tunnel.

It's amazing how many inept medical professionals are out there & conversley, how many awesome, astute professionals there are.

So true.  That reminds me of something a dear family friend of ours used to say.  He was a retired surgeon (and a highly regarded one).  He used to say, "Do you know what they call the person who graduated last in his class at medical school?  DOCTOR."  Just because they have the MD after their names doesn't mean they're really good at practicing medicine.  That's why we have to be our own advocates, or (as in Patti's situation) have a trustworthy person acting as your advocate when you're unable to.

I hope each day continues to bring even more progress so that the "woods" get thinner and thinner, and she's soon out of them completely and on a clear road to a full recovery!

Same here, Annie.  Continued healing vibes for her.

I'm only just now seeing this, but I'm glad things are looking better and will keep paws and fingers crossed.

Latest update on Patti is that she was finally moved to a better hospital where they have specialists.  Now we feel that she can get thie help she really needs to heal instead of just sitting in a holding pattern like she was in her community hospital.

I'm so glad to see this update and will continue to keep her in my thoughts.  I'm so angry that she wasn't getting the care she needed previously.  I know how important the right doctors and nurses can be with something so serious.  Hugs to all of you.

This is good. Healing toughts to her and comforting ones to the family.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts & prayers.  We finally have a name for what's got Patti in the hospital.  I'm not laughing at it but find it kind of ironic.  She's got AHIA.  Yup, you read right.  It's VERY rare for humans to have it.  I'll be heading over to the AHIA thread to study.  If you know of anything really important that we need to know, please feel free to contact me.

Wow -- I was just posting a reply to Callie's thread about the dogs dealing with this diagnosis right now.  I had no idea it was something humans can get, too.  It's a good thing she got moved to a better hospital where a diagnosis could be clearly defined and a course of treatment decided on by specialists.  Hopefully she'll make major progress now that she's getting higher-end care.  Continued good vibes going to her, your cousin, and their extended family.

Somehow  I just saw this -- continued good thoughts for your cuz's gf.  I hope she gets a good team of doctors who have some knowledge of this since the one thing I've gotten from the AIHA threads on here is how important that can be.

Even though we're talking 2 different species it seems that treatment is similar.

    • Gold Top Dog

    What is the treatment??

Wow, this is amazing.  I came to see how Patti is doing and cant believe the diagnosis.  If treatment is similar then we have some of the guru's right here on our forum.  Prayers still going to Patti for healing and strength.
