*Reunion photos!* Requesting good vibes for lost dog (Tacran)

I know how powerful the good thoughts and vibes are on this forum, so I hope you all can spare some for a special dog who's missing.

Spike is a pitbull/boxer mix who was at our local shelter for a few months until recently.  He loves people, but he's selective about the dogs he's comfortable with.  He's 7 years old, sweet, and has an "old soul" look to his face.  I often visited his kennel when I was at the shelter, and his eyes seemed a little sad, even though he wasn't stressed or distraught after so much time there.  He was a huge favorite with the volunteers who doted on him and worked to keep his spirits up and help his behavior while he waited for the special person/family who could give him a good home.  Everyone was quite excited when just a few weeks ago he was accepted at a highly regarded and experienced rescue place in our area that has success adopting out more difficult to place dogs.

I just learned that he somehow got out of his turnout at the rescue place the other day and hasn't been found yet.  Please send good vibes to keep him safe and to lead him to a friendly person who will be able to catch him and return him to the shelter or rescue group.  I hardly know this dog, but I just felt terrible when I heard the news.

I thank you, and those who care about Spike thank you, too!

There are times when they get so easily panicked.  Spike, honey -- let yourself be found, darlin ....

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh no, I hope Spike is found soon!  Sending good vibes for the sweet boy's safe return.  Please keep us updated.

Thanks for all your kind posts.  I wish I had a happy update, but as of this morning, Spike still hasn't been found.  Here is today's entry from the blog maintained by one of the shelter volunteers.  She was one of Spike's greatest supporters before he left the shelter for the special rescue place.  The really sad part is that another volunteer who'd been working hard on his behalf apparently just found a home for him . . . after all this time, he had a potential home, and that's when he escaped.  Crying

Being technologically challenged, I don't know if I can make this work -- there's a photo with the entry.  As soon as I get an update, I'll be sure to post it!

I'm sorry this week's blog is delayed, but the effort in the search for Spike has been the highest of my priorities. I wish Spike knew how hard his friends are looking for him. People have traveled the roads around where he went missing (Zena/Hopewell Rds) numerous times, there is a $200 reward for his safe return thanks to his friends at WHS and Hopes Haven, and there are posters going up all over the area outside and in businesses. Speaking of which, I have not had one businessperson decline our Missing Dog poster. Everyone has been concerned and hoping the best for him. We've even done some door-to-door knocking in the Zena Road area. We also posted his story and photos on Craigslist under lost/found. If any of you have ideas of other things we can do that might help us find Spike, please let me know. Our hearts remain very heavy tonight. Elizabeth's forever home awaits him. Here is one of my favorite pictures of our boy. We remain hopeful that he will be found safe.

    Continuing ***be found safe*** thoughts.

I too remain hopeful that he will be found safely.  Continued good vibes to the searchers and Spike.

Nothing new to report this morning . . . but I really appreciate everyone's support.  I'll keep checking the volunteer's blog so I can get any update ASAP.  We had some really hot weather this week, which could've been pretty tough on him, but it cooled down yesterday and is very comfortable today, so that's good.

Thanks for continuing to keep Spike in your thoughts!

I have very happy news to report this morning -- Spike was found yesterday!!  Last night I asked Tonka one more time to please guide Spike to someone who would find him -- I knew after a week that things were looking grim.  I didn't expect to see any news when I got on the computer this morning, so I was thrilled when I saw the blog entry.  Thank you to everyone for your good thoughts and vibes -- I have to think they helped lead to this happy ending!  Here are the details from the volunteer's blog, if you're interested:

"It's been quite an emotional day! At 8:30 this morning I got an excited call from Kate, a Spike Search volunteer, saying that she was out on Spring Valley Road and that she had seen him, but that he wouldn't come to her. She had driven down the road and suddenly there he was walking along the side of the road. She got out of her car, and she thought for a minute he'd come to her, but he backed away and went through the fence and down into the ravine. She said he looked pretty bad. She wanted me to come out, since he knows my voice. My wonderful husband jumped out of bed and off we went. When we got to where Kate was, she hadn't seen him again. It was a very overgrown area with lots of huge bushes and undergrowth and fences. I climbed over the fence and went as far as I could calling him but no luck. Kate went one way down the road and John the other. We looked and called for about an hour and I was getting so discouraged. I went back up on the road and walked toward where John was and suddenly we saw him deep in the ravine. I called him and he looked right at me, but didn't come. I know now that he was too weak. Then he disappeared in the undergrowth and he was so far away on the other side of a fence and way down in the ravine. I was just sick. Then a young man on a bike suddenly appeared and asked if we had lost a cat. I said, no, a dog and that he was in the ravine. He said the owner of the land lived a ways down the road and had paths in the ravine. I ran down to the farm house and met a wonderful grandmother and her granddaughter who were so eager to help us. The grandmother went down one way and the granddaughter and I went down the other. We probably searched for another half hour and nothing. Kate was on the road and suddenly saw Spike slowly walking toward the grandmother. We heard the grandmother shout, "He's here!" We ran to her path and I'll never forget the feeling I had when I saw our boy -- there he was, standing, very wobbly. I ran up to him and he licked my face. He was so weak he couldn't walk and could barely stand. He is emaciated. But his eyes are bright. We carried him up to the road. On the way to the vet he just lay in my lap, his head either on my arm or tucked under my arm against me. Occasionally he would reach up and give me a lick. I am sure that this would have been his last day alive if we had not found him. The granddaughter told me while we were looking that there are many coyotes and even mountain lions in the area. So right now Spike is sleeping on a warm blanket in a vet kennel, getting fluids intravenously. I've talked with Marsha (owner of Hopes Haven) several times today and we are all so happy! Now Spike will really get his forever home with Elizabeth!"
