Over the weekend, I noticed a small bump on Bevo's wrist. We were outside playing, & he had been running through one of the flower beds, so I assumed that he had been stung by a wasp. The bump felt soft, & I didn't worry about it. It looked & felt the same on Monday, & I sort of forgot about it. This morning, while getting breakfast ready, I saw that it looked a little larger, & felt a little more firm so I decided to have it checked.
Our vet was really concerned about the lump, & it's location, so he shot x-rays. He couldn't see anything definitive, but was concerned enough to email the rads to a radiologist to have them evaluated. The radiologist can see that something is there, but he can't tell if there is bone involvement or if it's just a soft tissue tumor that is making the bone look a bit "off." When the radiologist called, he recommended a MRI to see exactly what is going on. He said that it could be something minor, but "he is a 7 year old Dobe, so osteosarcoma has to be high on the list of possibilities." After the mention of osteosarcoma, we shot chest x-rays, & they are, at least for now, clear.
We are driving to Houston in the morning for the MRI. The radiologist will read it immediately, & we will proceed from there. Our surgeon is going to travel with us, so that if need be, she can amputate the leg before waking him up from the MRI. If that is the route that we have to take, there are some concerns. Because of the wobblers, we aren't sure that he will be able to get around on 3 legs. I suppose that all that I can do is wait & see what the MRI shows.
If you have spare thoughts & vibes I would really appreciate them.
