Prayers and healing vibes needed...

Johnny,  I'm so sorry you and Tessy are going through this.  I lit a candle for you and your girl and will keep her in my prayers.  ((((Hugs))))

Billy's was ALSO a systemic infection -- he had both pancreatitis and hepatitis at the same time -- except it was bacterial hepatitis (not the viral hepatitis that people get).

They are SO immune-suppressed.  That's it in a nutshell -- and the steroids and steroid-like drugs push the inflammation deeper and deeper into the body system.

Please feel free to call me if I can help

Anything I should be asking them when I go in I wonder?  She's supposed to get her azathioprin today but I *might* hold off on it until tomorrow...not sure yet.  I think I remember reading somewhere that azathioprine and pancreatitis don't mix.

I think that's a marvelous thing to ask -- did you get my email from last night?  Ask them about giving antibiotics that don't have to go thru the stomach --- and don't let them take the catheter out but rather just vet wrap it to her and leave it in - you'll have to get a few syringes of lactated Ringers to push thru that a couple of times a day but it's FAR easier to administer antibiotics that way if you can rather than it having to go thru her tummy right now.

I was in today to visit Tessy and sit with her.  Apparently she wouldn't pee or poop for them.  I took her out and after some convincing and encouragement she finally did both!  :)  YAY for pee & poop.

Billy's was ALSO a systemic infection

They said they thought it was systemic because of the look & color of her eyes???!!!???

She still looks *not right*...and sick.  They are keeping her another night because they still haven't tried her with any food.  I'd assume they are doing that any time now....if they haven't already.  IF she was able to keep the little bit down then the likelyness of her getting to come home tomorrow is good.  I'm a little freaked out cause they are holding back on the prednisone and azathioprine for another day.  I hope she has no adverse reactions from this decision....I don't know if I could handle another relapse at this point.

I wish I would have seen this or the email before I left.  I know she said that after Tessy leaves they will give antibiotics to use for another week or so.  Do you think it would be unwise to give oral antibiotics while dealing with this?  Was Billy still on immune suppressing drugs when he had Pancreatitis?  Did they stop them while dealing with it?

This is the smallest I've seen her stomach in a really long time.  I don't think there's anything left in there!  I can always tell when she isn't feeling well cause I brought a ball in for her to keep in the cage and she just spit it out at my feet and layed down!!!  :(  I brought in an old shirt to leave with her...hopefully this will make her more comfortable.

Keep the vibes coming please.  They seem to be working!  Thank you all sooo much.

Sucky that she's still not home, I was thinking of her today and hoping for a good update.

Tiki brought her catheter home once and it really wasn't a big deal at all, AND I made sure she got pink vet wrap for it :)

Johnny, I'm sorry that she hasn't made as quick of a recovery as we had all hoped, but I'm glad that she's still at the clinic on fluids.  Fingers crossed that this extra night of fluids will have her feeling strong & ready to come home tomorrow.

    How's she doing today?

    • Gold Top Dog

I got an email from Johnny this morning -- he DID get to bring her home.  I'll let him tell the rest of the story.  She's glad to be home.

    She's glad to be home.

You got that right!  The poor little darling won't leave my feet now!  When she came out the door her behind wiggled more than I saw it in ages!

They gave me a prescription diet of Hills i/d to give her for the next 4-6 weeks!  Yeah, hopoing this suits her well...not too fond of a couple ingrediants!

She ALMOST didn't get to come home today.  I was a couple hundred dollars short on the bill and they weren't going to let her go without paying in full.  They're darn lucky I was in a good mood.  Spent WELL over $10,000 at this place within the past 15 months so you'd figure they'd give a person a break and give a guy his dog!  Trust me....there was no way she'd be staying again!  If I would have had to go to the back and TAKE her I would have!  I'd like to see them stop me.  OK....enough talking about it....I get upset just thinking about it!  I'm just glad she's home where she belongs.  Perhaps it's time to find a different vet.

Thanks for all the vibes and prayers.  Again, they mean more than you can imagine!

yay Tessy!! so happy you're home! Still sending vibes for continued recovery and happiness, ah it's good to be home.

    • Gold Top Dog

Sorry I missed this Tessy and Johnny!  I am hoping that you are better today.  Being home make lots and lots of difference in how you feel.

About the vet.....uh yes I think it is time to find someone that cares more about Tessy than the $$$.  That would really make me mad.   My doc has never hesitated to do what is necessary even if I have to pay it out!
