but I can't wait to hold her hand and just be next to her.

Yes, that's all that matters at the end of the day.  I'm so happy she did so well in surgery and I will continue to pray for her recovery.  You have all my strongest good thoughts and support.

     How's she doing today?

Sending you and your family tons of good thoughts!!!

Mom's in a fairly high level of pain (we finally talked the drs into giving her an injection of morphine every hour on the hour instead of every 2 hrs) and if she opens her eyes too long, the room spins. Other than physical manifestations, her mind is excellent, absolutely great! This cracks me up. The Chaplain at the hospital came in to read her a part of the Bible, and when he finished, she said "Thank you, but you skipped a few scriptures." so he went back and sure enough he had! My mom is always super polite and usually wouldn't have noticed or said anything if she did, but I guess the drugs make her a little less inhibited. Shows how well she's comprehending, though!

She doesn't know she needs a second procedure to reattach the piece of skull they removed, and as she's very bandaged she hasn't figured it out. She doesn't know the piece of skull is placed in her abdomen, and I think we should tell her. However, eeryone is telling me to keep my mouth shut because it is too stressful. I will just pray the Lord will reveal the right time to tell her, and that she accepts it as part of the journey to recovery. Thank you all so much for caring and being so supportive. It means a lot to me and my family.

I hope they get her pain under control with the morphine.  As much as you want to be honest with her about the piece of skull and the need to replace it later, it is sometimes better not to stress her with too much info all at once.  She'll be better able to deal with that when she has recovered a bit from this major surgery.

That's too funny about her correcting the Chaplain on his bible reading. Keep those guys on their toes!

Continued prayers for all of you and please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

    That's great news, Beejou. Party!!!

FWIW, I agree with Jackie about not telling her yet about the piece of skull needing re-attachment.

Me, too.  I think the last thing I'd want to hear while I was still in pain was that they have to open me up again.  You might want to get some guidance from the nurses and docs about the best time to bring that up - maybe they can help with the explanation, too, so that she won't be as anxious.  Great news about her cognition, though:-)

I agree with all of the above.

I love the story about the missing scripture. Your mom sounds like she's doing remarkably well. I'm sorry she's having so much pain but hopefully with some tweaking of the meds or the timing of the meds, they can get that under control.

I'll keep you and your mom in my thoughts and prayers that her recovery continues to go smoothly.

I, too, agree with the recommendations to wait to tell her. Letting her body heal is important now, and being able to minimize the stress is a good way to support her healing. It's so great to hear that she is doing so well cognitively. I bet the Chaplain will remember to study up before he comes to visit again :-)  We're sending continued prayers and healing energies.

Thank you everyone. I guess I won't tell her about the 2nd procedure, you guys are right. It would be too hard and she's feling a lot better emotionally and I don't want to dash that. I found a few pics of me and my mom just having fun and I thought I'd share. She's always fun to be around.

I hope you guys can sort of see her personality through these photos. She's a lovely person. <3

I missed yesterdays update....what great news that she was able to "correct" the Chaplain, good one!

What great pics of the 2 of you.   You are both in my prayers, I hope the pain will ease up soon.

Now you keep up your spirits, it will go a long way in helping your Mom recover!  The less she is worried about you, the more focus she will have on healing!  :)

Your mom looks like a very special woman.  Thanks for sharing her picture with us.  You're both still in my thoughts.

Thank you all so much. My mom (most of you know) isn't my blood mom. She basically adopted me five years ago. She reached out and saved me from a hard road. She holds such a special place in my heart, I can't picture life without her being her old self. She called me on the phone today, she sounded wonderful! I am so glad she's doing well.
