    Prayer for Expedience (mrstjohnson)

My "uncle" is dying.  He's not really an uncle exactly, but we are Italian so pretty much anyone older than you in the family is an uncle.  He has been through heck and back the past few years with several cancer treatments, broken bones, brain lesions, etc.  In conjunction with all of this, my "aunt" has not only had to deal with all of this, but her mother died earlier this year and was in declining health for several years as well.  I know this sounds horrible, but the end is inevitable so please say a prayer that it comes sooner than later.  My aunt is so exhausted and he is too I think.  He went into a semi-coma yesterday and was placed in hospice care.

    Thanks

Lisa, it doesn't sound horrible at all to wish for a quick end to a loved one's suffering.  I know how truly agonizing a situation like this can be on everyone.  My prayers for your uncle to find his way to a better place.

Sending prayers for a peaceful transition for your Uncle; as well as strength for your Aunt as she deals with the very hard times she endures.

Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers.  It is so hard to see him like this.  He is a larger than life man (literally and figuratively).  He has refused all visits from everyone except his wife and girls.  From what I understand from my mom, he is the one that made the decision to stop all treatments and to go into hospice.

    Thank you again.

I come from a half-Italian family -- with lots of pseudo-aunts and uncles.  The lack of a blood relationship doesn't diminish the love and value they bring to my life, and the loss of such special people can be just as difficult (sometimes more so) than that of "real" family members.  I've also experienced that heart-breaking time when you find yourself turning from "get well" prayers to "relief-of-suffering" prayers.  I'm sorry you're going through this, and I'll keep you, your uncle, and his extended family (in its fullest definition) in my thoughts.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.  My "uncle" passed away this morning peacefully with my aunt at his side.
